Ocean Conservancy is a nonprofit organization that focuses on the ocean wildlife. It is an environmental advocacy group that situated in Washington D.C. in the United States. The organization was established in 1972 as the Delta Corporation with the aim of promoting healthy and extensive ocean ecosystems, and to prevent practices that endanger the life in the ocean and human life. Although the organization depends on the well-wishers for financing the programs and running the organization, it has several programs that campaign for protecting the habitats of the special marine, restoration of sustainable fisheries, minimizing the human effect on the ocean ecosystem and managing the resources of US oceans. The company is exempted tax since it is not aimed at making profits and it meet standards for excellent accountability of charity funds. Moreover, the organization comes up with reforms for the government to better manage the oceans given the current change in the environmental conditions leading o global warming. For instance, Norton Point Company that deals with accessories and clothing partners with Ocean Conservancy since they recycle some materials from the ocean to makes glasses.
Moreover, Ocean Conservancy has a sponsor who participates and enhance a major event that reinforces the mission as well as the programmatic goals of the organization. The sponsor has enabled the organization to make a measurable difference regarding the health of the coastal ecosystems and the communities. One of the events where the sponsor has come in is during the International Coastal Cleanup. In this event, the Bank of America has collaborated with Ocean Conservancy in sponsoring the event through offering more than 2000 employees to participate in the cleanup. In conjunction with this corporate, other foundations and government leaders has collaborated with conservancy through the supporting and participation various events (Ocean Conservancy, 2016). Furthermore, during the annual cleanup, Ocean Conservancy partners with industry, nonprofit, government and academia to come up with ocean trash remedies. For example Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Additionally, they collaborate with federal and state government in formulating policies to safeguard the oceans. Lastly, the general public plays an important role in the donation of funds and other materials that aid in the operation of the organization and labor they offer during the main events. From various collaborations, some of the collaborators such as non- profit organization are horizontal since they just aid in the formulation of policies and offering finances. Others are private since they sponsor their main events such as the Bank of America and other foundations.
Apparently, Ocean Conservancy has a strategic plan aimed at improving the efficiency of their operations. Their major issue is to prevent further pollution of the ocean especially from industrial leakages as well as oceans being used as dumping sites. In this phase the government partners with a non-profit organization to enhance service delivery. For instance, the government has partnered with Ocean Conservancy to formulate policies regarding oceans and cleaning of the ocean ecosystem.
