What do you think gave rise to the Pre-Socratic philosophers (the Sophos).
Pre-Socratic philosophers (the Sophos)
I don’t want to see a word or two or a few sentences. I really want to see you engage yourself in these questions and to really ponder and think about them. This is a philosophy class. Its all about the dialogue and the discussion. There are not right or wrong answers, just possibilities. A good philosophy conversation will go on forever.
Part I: Read and reply to the following questions:
1. What do you think gave rise to the Pre-Socratic philosophers (the Sophos). There was a transition from the superstition and mythology and a shift towards the early development of philosophy. Why were they interested in reason and observation?
2. Pythagoras is one of the early sophos philosophers. He felt numbers were most important. Do you think we invented math/numbers or created math/numbers?
3. Socrates was put on trial for “Corrupting the youth”. How do you understand that? Was he really corrupting the youth?
