Write a memoir, a true story about something that you actually experienced

Write a memoir, a true story about something that you actually experienced. Your story must
relate a single event that caused you to have a change of mind or heart, make a discovery,
confirm or contradict a belief, experience a disappointment, reach a major decision, etc. In other
words, it must have a universal theme to which at least some readers might relate.
See the PowerPoint on Memoirs for specific instructions on how to compose a Memoir. Be sure
to include the following narrative elements:
• Scenes full of detail and imagery
• Characters with motivation and depth
• Incremental, logical development of the plot
• Conflict and theme
Your memoir should be 1000 words in length. Being concise is an element of this assignment. It
should also be block formatted—single-space the text, do not indent the first line of paragraphs,
but add an extra blank line between paragraphs. Include a title on the top left of the first page,
but do not put your name on documents that will be submitted to the Turnitin database.
This memoir will be evaluated using the following Criteria for Evaluation:
1. Does the memoir focus on a key event in the narrator’s life, one that involves a
conflict and represents a sort of turning point?
2. Is the conflict introduced early and is it magnified during plot developments that lead
logically to a resolution?
3. Are characters revealed through interesting incidents, setting details, and dialogue?
4. Does the conflict reveal something universal to which the reader can relate and does
the narrator avoid explicitly identifying the theme at the end of the narrative?
5. Has the memoir been edited for grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors to the
extent that it is acceptable for professional level work?
