Look carefully at Map 6.2. What does it tell us about the routes by which Afro-Eurasia was becoming increasingly connected in the 2nd and 1st centuries BCE? What role did Empires play in weaving together east and west, north and south? What role did nomadic societies in the huge territories between the empires play? Does this map suggest a relationship between the development of trade routes and the spread of culture, and in particular the religions of the Axial Age?
