ERP

Enterprise Resource Planning is to integrate all the core processes needed for a company. They can include HR, Supply chain, services, procurement, manufacturing etc. in a traditional mode business used to have different and individual systems for its different operations which is more complex to manage. ERP will make all the core business functions into one single system to simplify management and to eliminate confusion and errors. These systems will integrate all data centers at different units, based on the inputs given it will mange the operations. By unifying all the processes, we can readily compare the overall performance of the business rather than studying the data separately (Margaret, 2016).

What are some examples

Examples of ERP include CRM, product life cycle management, supply chain management, manufacturing and distribution, ware house management, finance, Human resources, decision support system, sales order processing etc.

Advantages of ERP

o   By using ERP business processes can be optimized

o   Information about different business operations will be more timely and accurate

o   The information can be shared between all the components of the business more frequently.

o   Unnecessary data management and operations can be eliminated

o   Customer service will be improved by reducing response time

o   It will make the business more competitive and technically advanced

o   It will improve performance and save time

How my company can use ERP

I like to use ERP for improving customer service. Since the success of these systems rely upon the proper data integration, I would look for proving constant up to date information into the system (Margaret, 2016).

We can even consider integrating EPM (Enterprise Performance Management) and other critical financial systems into the ERP.

It will help to know the true picture of business performance from the perspective of customer and sales. This output will assist in taking day-to-day inventory planning and resource management decisions. I would consider integrating ERP with EPM for the following reasons (Margaret, 2016).

o   It will increase the accuracy of the resource management, allocation and planning.

o   It will improve the quality and reliability of the management and available data.

I will first implement EPM software, since it is easier to implement and will take as short as 2 to 3 moths time to roll out. Once it is set well, we can consider using ERP, it is more complex to use than the other ones and will take six to twelve moths to completely integrate into the business (Margaret, 2016)
