The multiple definitions of Public Relations

Question 1:

As you’ll see in these readings, defining Public relations is not as easy as it seems. It reflects the varying nature of public relations that covers many situations and many outlooks. Let’s discuss some of these definitions.

Question 2:

As we read and discuss the history of public relations, consider why it’s important to understand that history in the context of today’s business environment

Question 3:

One of the hallmarks of public relations, is the research that goes into any campaign well before the campaign starts. Consider the target market your own organizations face. Who are they and how can they be researched?

Question4:

This part of the readings considers the importance of cultivating and maintaining rate relations with the various organs of media. As you read this section, consider your own organization and why it would be important to maintain good relations with the surrounding media community.

 

Assignment 1:

Select a company, business, or non-profit organization and provide an example about how public relations (PR) principles apply.

Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper in which you examine the following:

  • The multiple definitions of Public Relations.

  • The connection between PR and the promotional aspect of the marketing mix (advertising, publicity, public relations)?

    • How are they similar and how are they different?

    • How might PR be more important during a crisis situation for an organization?

Include two outside references as well as citations with your paper.

Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.
