As an individual, what were your individual goals for resolving the conflict? What were the group goals?
A team is comprised of more than one individual who come together to collaborate with each other in order to achieve a common goal such as to make a decision, perform a task or complete a project. A team can be two people who simply wash cars together or five people who complete a research project. Knowing how you function as an individual within a team can help facilitate your team’s process. Conflict is inevitable when more than one individual is involved. As a team member, consider how you as an individual handle conflict. What’s your conflict resolution MO (modus operandi)? Do you avoid problems when they arise or do you tend to adopt a “go along to get along” type of approach to resolving conflict? Briefly discuss the five styles of handling conflict: Competing, Accommodating, Avoiding, Collaborating, and Compromising. Then indicate your preferred style and discuss one example where you helped facilitate your team’s process. As an individual, what were your individual goals for resolving the conflict? What were the group goals?
