Identify TWO important roles that private security currently play in this area by discussing security needs due to recent incidents (1 in US and similar 1 in EU) that have occurred in the past 3-5 years.
1. When defining private security, the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) identified 18 core elements (see Strom, Berzofsky, Shook-Sa, Barrick, Daye, Horstmann, & Kinsey, 2010).
Select one of these areas in which you have an interest, then explain using Strom et al and Born, Caparini, and Cole :
a.) how private security needs in this area has increased and why; and
b.) identify TWO important roles that private security currently play in this area by discussing security needs due to recent incidents (1 in US and similar 1 in EU) that have occurred in the past 3-5 years.
2. Born et al. (2007) examined EU standards for norms and human rights (e.g., privacy, discrimination, liability) in the US and abroad (EU). Using Born et al AND Strom et al:
a.) Select two of these proposed standards and indicate how it is relevant/important for security personnel in US and abroad (EU) given today’s incidents at embassies, stadiums, etc.
b.) Discuss how qualitative differences in personnel standards (e.g., training, education, licenses, etc.) contribute to problems in security and personnel’s ability to handle everything from the norm (e.g., security checkpoints for staff) to emergencies (e.g., active shooters entering the building).
