1. Describe the jail supervision styles of indirect/first-generation, podular/second-generation, and direct/new-generation. Review text and course document notes below and the attached PDF documents:
Jails have a sordid history in American corrections. They have served as warehouses for vagrants, petty offenders, and social undesirables. Today, inmates in jail are a diverse lot. They include the convicted and those awaiting court proceedings, as well as both felons and misdemeanors. The new generation of jails allows direct supervision of offenders. Some of the most significant concerns to jail and detention administrators is the problem of overcrowding, personnel improvements, health care, and jail standards. Several alternatives to jail are being proposed. These include fines, day-fines, weekend confinement, community work orders, and pretrial alternatives.
2. Describe a typical minimum and supermaximum security prison. (Your response should include type of prisoner housed there, interior and exterior control and security descriptions. Use the notes above and in the attached PDF files below for this question. Answer in essay format.)
3. Which type of security level is similar to minimum security but usually has double fences and inmates not perceived as dangerous or escape risks? (just list the security level; no other details are necessary.)
