Early Childhood Education Introduction to Curriculum
Curriculum Web Assignment
This assignment is designed to provide you with the experience of creating a curriculum web.
First, go back to your two-page research paper. Is this a topic you might explore with children? If yes, you can use the topic. If not, then choose another topic of interest to you and the children, maybe something that connects with the children’s families or the community at large. (If you are working with children right now, observe and assess for developmental themes (remember from “Thinking Big” The video watched week four and five.) or other emerging interests. (What are the children talking about? What themes are they playing out?) No holiday, media characters, or toys can be used as themes or topics.
Second, using the curriculum webbing technique in chapter 3 of the textbook or another webbing technique you prefer (Google images is full of them!), brainstorm activities that can might emerge and ideas that can be developed that demonstrate all of the developmental domains and/or how to incorporate the topic into a long term project.
This is a drawing or a graphic.
This is not a written out lesson plan.
Be sure to check in your textbook chapter three.
You can also “google” curriculum webbing. (I hopes this makes sense!)
Age group should be 3-5 year olds. If you prefer to focus on another age group, email me and let me know. I may have some questions before approving.
At the top of the page: · What is the topic for this webbing activity? Remember: No holidays, etc can be used as themes or activities.
Third: · Using the curriculum web technique you choose, brainstorm activities that can be included in the theme or ideas that can be developed that demonstrate all of the developmental domains and/or how to incorporate the theme throughout the program.
Your web should have 3 to 4 ideas, with variety, for each area/domain (Language/Literacy, Science/math, Dramatic play, blocks, fine motor/manipulatives, Sensory, writing, and art)
Grading: · In grading this activity, I will be looking for ideas that are DAP (Think of the 3 core components and 5 essential guidelines). · I will be looking for ideas that are child initiated and open-ended.
You can hand draw it out and take a picture and upload the picture or scan it to me, either way. You can use your topic from your research paper as well but it doesn’t have to be.
