1: Rebuilding Greece: Nation, State, and Economy. In class, we have discussed Greece’s miraculous recovery after a decade of war and destruction, yet we have also discussed criticisms and seen some problems in Greek society from 1950 to 1981, including times of division, political instability, fear, repression, “amnesia”, “dependent development” etc. On balance, was the Greek recovery a success? Was there a better course that Greece could possibly have taken during this period?
2: Greece and the US. How could you define the relationship between Greece and the United States from 1947 to 1981? Was Greece a partner, a client, an ally, a dependent, or something else? How did the relationship change during this period?
3: Rural Society. Thinking particularly about socio-cultural anthropology as well as popular culture, how was Greek rural culture depicted in the period from the 1950s to the 1970s? How were rural societies transformed during this time? What was gained and what was lost?
