Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham Essay

Yashovardhan Raichand, also called Yash, is a famous Indian businessman. He and his wife Nandini adopted a son, Rahul, and raised him as their own. Nine years later they had their own son, Rohan. Rahul’s adoption has always been kept as a secret, but he finds out at the age of 8 years. He promised his father, that he would always respect the traditions of the Raichand family. Something that he would never break, but unfortunately he does. The father wanted his friend’s daughter, Naina, as his elder daughter-in-law.

Rahul doesn’t know about that or that Naina loves him madly. Instead, he falls for a lower-middle class girl, named Anjali.

He marries her and brings her home, against his fathers wishes. Yash refuse to accept it, and says that he doesn’t have ‘Raichand’ blood in him. Rahul can’t bear to hear it, and leaves India with his wife. Rohan, who was in boarding school in that moment, learns the truth ten years later, and promises to reunite the family.

Rohan goes in search of his brother, who has moved to London. There he meets Pooja, Anjali’s sister, and then team up to re-unite the family, but without the family knowing his true identity. He finds out they still love their parents. Slowly he reveals his own identity and convinces them to return.

Yash is the father. He’s really old-fashioned, because his life is based on the same traditions as his grandparents had. He’s also very dominated, he wants all the things his way. Rahul, the adopted son, were always that kind of a boy, that did what his parents told him to do. But one day, the love toke over, and he just had to follow his heart. ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’, or ‘Sometimes there’s happiness, sometimes there’s sadness’ in English, a movie about relationships between parents and children, between husband and wife and between siblings, is one of the best movies, that I have ever seen in my life.

This movie is indescribable beautiful in so many ways. It has everything that Bollywood symbolize. Great catchy musical numbers, drama, comedy and of course a wonderful story. I have seen this movie a millions times, and it still remains my favorite Bollywood film of all times. If you haven’t seen it, you really should. You don’t want to miss it! It has everything. Emotions, love and hate. It is a great family entertainment too.
