Christopher McCandless is an intriguing, yet polarizing figure. Even author Jon Krakauer admits he can’t recount his story without a bit of bias; he can’t be an “impartial biographer,” as he says.
What is your first impression of McCandless having now read the first five chapters of Into the Wild? Is he to be admired for his “courage and noble ideas,” or is he “a reckless idiot, a wacko, a narcissist who perished out of arrogance and stupidity?” Is he something else entirely? A combination of the two?
