The Importance of the Human Resources Sergeant in the Profession of Arms

From personal experience, I have oftentimes found myself on the receiving end of many ongoing debates regarding the significance of human resources personnel (specifically the Human Resources Sergeant) in the profession of arms. Based on the variances in thoughts and opinions, it can be inferred that many possess a negative attitude or lack of understanding on how critical the role of the Human Resources Sergeant is within the profession. Nonetheless, to gain a thorough understanding of the roles and responsibilities delegated to human resources sergeants requires educating others on the internal policies and procedures associated with the profession, the professionalism of the Army as it pertains to culture, and most importantly the balancing roles of the profession’s leaders. * In need of a thesis statement and supporting sentence about facilitating pertinent information and being adaptable to change. *

First and foremost, the Human Resources Sergeant is charged with briefing their respective upper echelon on all critical information that pertains to their assigned headquarters, as well as any subordinate units that they have been appointed oversight of. Some of the vital information that is addressed and reported includes but is not limited to unit readiness, personnel strength, deployment operations, morale, welfare, and recreational support, and any other valuable information conducive to the well-being of Soldiers (Army, 2010). However, to carry out these responsibilities, one (human resources sergeant) should exhibit certain traits such as confidence, practical skills, leadership capabilities, duty, and character to be able to support and expend maximum effort to meet the mission’s requirements and Commander’s intent.

In regard to change within the Army’s culture, it can be implied that past war experiences, technological advances, and regulatory guidance are some contributory factors that have streamlined a more “contemporary” environment. Due to this ever-changing dynamic, it is imperative that all human resources sergeants implement their adaptability skills to be able to maneuver and remain functional during these changes and settings. This time also allows the human resources sergeant to ensure the accomplishment of all assigned missions and tasks by allocating and managing risks, avoiding innocent casualties, as well as force protection (Army, 2010). As a result, this increases the confidence and abilities for the human resources sergeant to the commander and other personnel who are dependent upon these individuals for services.

In conclusion, it is evident that the human resources sergeant plays a vital role in terms of balancing leadership and facilitating the day-to-day operations within the profession of arms. Not to mention, they are identified as the most flexible and adaptable personnel in order to meet the mission’s requirements, but also assist their leaders, peers, and subordinates amid the Army’s alternating culture. With keeping this is mind, it is important for these individuals to maintain a high standard of professionalism along with implement the most efficient practices when delivering services. * Strong closing sentence*
