Role of the Internal Action Researcher

Topic 1: Role of the Internal Action Researcher
Read the following then, answer the questions below.
Action research differs from other forms of research. In your response, identify skills and competencies action researchers’ use that other forms of research seldom, if ever, call upon. In your class, you focus on the role of the internal action researcher as it is more common in practice than the external action researcher. An internal action researcher is located in the web of internal organizational politics, must deal with situations throughout the action research project, and live with the consequences after the project is completed. The internal AR person faces different challenges than an external consultant.
Drawing from Coghlan’s academic analysis, discuss the following three key points as you examine your role, functions, and responsibilities as an internal action researcher:
1. Examine the most salient challenges and advantages of the Internal AR person.
2. Identify strategies to deal with challenges and to capitalize on the advantages.
3. Explore additional considerations not addressed in the Coghlan article.
