Identify two elements of academic practices (writing, reading, listening, and/or speaking) in English

a. Identify two elements of academic practices (writing, reading, listening, and/or speaking) in English that differ from academic practices in another cultural context (e.g a different country, institution, level of study). Use the concepts discussed on the module that have been most relevant and most useful to your own academic practices.

b. Using the guidelines offered in class, reflect upon the reasons for which the elements of academic practices, which you have chosen, have been most relevant and useful to you (the word limit is 1,000 words +/- 10%).

You may refer to the process of producing academic language as well as to characteristics of academic language produced as product/text.

You may refer to your experience of reading academic texts or listening in academic contexts.

You are asked to give substance to your reflection by incorporating the results of your reading of academic literature as recommended and practiced on the module. It is important that you reference at least one academic source. Further credit will be given for further use of quality sources.

You are also required to use concrete examples from your first year assignments and experience before university as evidence for your reflection.

Organise your reflection clearly, using transitions between sections, ideas and paragraphs, with an introduction and a conclusion to frame the reflection.

You must support your claims with evidence from sources on academic writing, including departmental or module guidelines for the assignment you analyse. All sources should be referenced in keeping with APA Referencing Style.

NB: Please make sure that your assignment is formatted as an MS Word document file. In completing this assignment, your address each of the module’s ILOs
