This activity is intended to introduce you to using developmental theories in practice.

Upon successful completion of this assignment, you will be able to:

  1. Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.
  2. View both of the following videos:

  3. Be sure you have completed the following readings:
    1. Textbook: Kaplan & Sadock’s Synopsis of Psychiatry:
      1. Chapter 32 Normal Development and Aging
        1. 32.1 Infant, Child, and Adolescent Development
      2. Chapter 34
        1. 34.1 Contributions from the Psychosocial Sciences (pp. 1007-1013; 1013-1023- stop after Associative Learning)
        2. 34.4 Theories of Personality and Psychopathology
    2. Textbook: Psychotherapy for the Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse: A How-to Guide for Evidenced-Based Practice
      1. Chapter 5: Supportive and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy; pp. 249-257 (top of 257)
      2. Chapter 21: Psychotherapeutic Approaches with Children and Adolescents
  4. Develop a 2-3 page paper (minimum 300 words) on the still face experiment video writing about your thoughts/feelings/reactions. Then discuss how attachment impacts development using one of the developmental theories (Freud, Erikson, or Piaget).
  5. Use APA formatting throughout the paper, citations/references should be included. You may write in first person as these are your thoughts/feelings/reactions.
  6. When you’ve completed your assignment, save a copy for yourself and submit a copy to your instructor using the assignment submission page by Day 7 of the workshop.
