Christmas – 8th Grade Expository Example Essay

Christmas – 8th Grade Expository Example Essay.

“City sidewalks, busy sidewalks dressed in holiday style… In the air, there’s a feeling of Christmas…” My favorite holiday has always been Christmas. I love everything about it! One of the best things about Christmastime is that we get such a long time off from school. In addition to that, my family flies back home to Pennsylvania in December, so we always get to see snow. We also spend time with family and friends playing games and exchanging gifts, which is always a lot of fun.

Of all the holidays, I think Christmas is the best! Towards the end of December, we all really need a break, and Christmas Break comes at just the right time, lasting just over two weeks! It’s so nice to have off from school at a time when there’s great holiday music on the radio and great sales in all the stores.

Not to mention the fantastic foods filling my plate as I go to all the holiday get-togethers.

I don’t like too many gatherings, though, sometimes I just like to rest. I try to spend most of my time on the long break relaxing and enjoying family. Speaking of family, I get to fly back home to Pennsylvania over Christmas Break to visit my relatives. It is always snowy in Pennsylvania in December, so that’s an exciting part our vacation for my sister and me. We go to my cousins’ house and ride four wheelers in the snow, pulling inner tubes behind them. Our parents usually get some great videos of us playing in the snow. Last year we stayed outside so long in a snowstorm, that our hair was caked with snow by the time we came in! It looked like we had white dreadlocks! It is always so fun having adventures with my cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents back home in Pennsylvania. In addition to all of our snowy adventures, we also spend lots of time indoors with family and friends playing games and exchanging gifts.

My grandma buys tons of little gifts – mostly candy and dollar store items, but a few nice things, too – that she wraps up and uses as prizes in a game that the whole family plays. There are about twenty of us sitting around her long dining room table, and we roll dice for about two minutes. Whenever anyone rolls doubles, they get to take a present. When all the presents are gone, but there’s still time on the clock, you get to steal someone else’s present! It’s kind of hard to explain, but it’s the most fun our family has at the holidays.

Spending time with all of my family over Christmas Break is a great time that is very special to me…and getting little gifts is an added bonus! Just like most people I know, I think Christmas is the best holiday ever! Having such a long time off from school is a much-needed break in the middle of the school year. Because the break is so long, my family can fit in time to fly back home to Pennsylvania to have some fun playing in the snow. The fun continues indoors with family games and gifts, always a highlight of the vacation. This vacation is something I look forward to all year round. Christmas brings me so much happiness…just like those Silver Bells. “Ring-a-ling….Hear them ring… Soon it will be Christmas Day.”

Jingle bell, jingle bell jingle all the way. Oh what fun to give love on Christmas Day. Last Christmas we spread joy to the world by making the children as the ” STAR NG PASKO “

Christmas or “Pasko” is the most awaited celebration and happiest season or event not only in the Philippines but also in the whole Christian world. This is also the time of the year when family getting together, especially when family members from overseas come home with lots of gifts.

Exchanging gifts and the family feast highlight the most loved celebration. The celebration of Christmas in the Philippines begins on the 16th of December and ends on the first Sunday of January which is the Feast of the Epiphany (The Three Kings). It is quite different from the other countries of the world; it is the longest of the Philippine festivities stretching for over 3 weeks. This makes the Filipino Christmas celebration one of the longest Christmas season in the world.

A rich tradition which dates back to the Spanish period.

Well, Filipinos have a lot of Christmas tradition which makes us different from the other. Some of the Filipino traditions are the Filipino Christmas lantern, Christmas caroling, “simbang gabi” or the misa de gallo, and the gift giving, the true essence of Filipino Christmas.

Historically, Christmas gift giving became part of many Christmas traditions all over the world to honor the three wise men that brought gifts to the baby Jesus. According to the bible records after Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.

As a fulfillment of our requirement for our Psychology subject, we conduct a gift giving program to the Nueva Ecija Home for Girls in Brgy. Singgalat, Palayan City. The Nueva Ecija Home for Girls is a child-caring facility that provides protection, care, treatment and rehabilitation services to abused and exploited girls below 18 years old. As of now, they give care and shelter for 93 women. At first our only aim is to have a project in our psychology class, but when we first visit the Home for the Girls, the girls touched our heart as their smiles flashes on their faces. We realize that this project is not only for our grades but for those women that need love and care this Christmas. Now it is not about the grades, it is all about giving love, care and attention for all those abused women.

In order for us to gather money or fund for our gift giving program for Nueva Ecija Home for Girls, our group decided to solicit and conduct a caroling. Each of us in our group gave a solicitation letter on each of our barangay officials in our barangays. And from December 12 to December 19, every night we go to different barangays like Kapt. Pepe, Zulueta, Ma. Theresa, and Caridad to conduct a caroling. We collect P6,000.00 on solicits and P3,500.00 on caroling with a total of P9,500.00.

After we collect funds from solicitations and caroling, we provide P3,500.00 for the gifts and P6,000.00 for foods. On December 20, we canvass and purchase toys and candies as gifts to the beneficiaries; we also purchase the ingredients and recipes for the food that we will bring to the orphans of Nueva Ecija Home for Girls. On the night of December 20, we wrap all the gifts and started to prepare the foods. In the morning of December 21, we prepare and cook Lumpiang Shanghai, Menudo and Chopsuey. After we prepare and ready all the foods and gifts, we go to the Nueva Ecija Home for Girls to start our gift giving program and also a mini Christmas party for them.

It is hard to imagine celebrating Christmas in the modern world without thinking about giving gifts. But, have you ever thought to yourself, “Why do we give gifts at Christmas?” In some ways, the tradition of giving gifts at Christmas is a very ancient tradition. In other ways, giving gifts at Christmas is a relatively new development, as well. Gift giving is one of the core aspects of the modern Christmas celebration; the essence of the Christmas season.

Planning and conducting of activity like gift giving is so hard because huge amount of money or funds are needed to accomplish it. So our group plans to conduct a caroling and solicits to each of our barangay officials to collect funds for this charity work.

When we are wrapping the gifts, we feel so excited and we’re thinking about what will they feel and say to our gifts for them. And when we are going to the Nueva Ecija Home for Girls, we feel so nervous and excited. But when we see the smiles of the orphans, we feel so very happy and pleasured. We feel great and very happy not just because we give gifts to the orphans in the Home for Girls but also because we put smiles on their faces and gave happiness. Even though our gifts were not expensive or so special, each of them appreciate it very much and express their highest gratitude to us. It’s so nice to help others especially to the orphans.

Every hugs and thank you from them make us cry. They really touched our hearts. We can’t imagine that in a simple party and simple gifts can make them happy. We feel so happy especially when we hear a child said “ Ngayon lang ako naging masaya ng ganito”. Every message that we receive from them like “ ate maraming salamat po” , “ kuya babalik kayo ha”. And as they hug and kiss us we feel that they really need more care and love that’s why we decided that every Christmas we are going to visit them and bring some smile on their faces. This only proves that “It’s better to give, than to receive.”

An Unforgettable Holiday: Little Red Bike Essay

An Unforgettable Holiday: Little Red Bike Essay.

It was December 2001.”The most wonderful time of the year”. A special holiday season for my family because our grandparents were coming to visit us from Argentina after two years of our departure. When my parents decided to leave our country in search for “better opportunities”, I was three and my brother was six. Between suitcases and planes we were excited about the coming adventure. We did not know at that time, about distances or leaving family behind. Then I realized that I missed my grandpa so much, calling him every week was not enough.

It was going to be a very special holiday for me. My dearest grandpa was coming. He taught me to ride a little red bike before I was three. He would run next to me up and down the block, making sure I was not going to fall from it. He would visit every day after work and bring me and my brother a little something, may be a candy or a small chocolate and one yellow flower for my mom, which he would take from some garden on his way to our home.

I would take long naps with him on our Sunday visit to his house and then he would drive us religiously to the park and play soccer before dropping us at home. This was going to be an unforgettable holiday, and I did not know at that time, it was going to be the last time I would spend with him. And the time came for us to be together again. The instant I saw him, I hang to his neck and did not stop talking. He looked older and thinner than what I remember but I was so delighted to be in his arms again. My words were coming out like a waterfall. Mixing English and Spanish I told him about school, my friends, and afternoons at the pool and all my new toys. He was not talking a lot or was I talking too much? Beyond happiness, I was just a child. I barely realized how much he had changed. How sick he already was. What could be merrier than Christmas with my grandpa! And under the tree on that Christmas Day, my brother and I found two beautiful bicycles. Mine was red.

And of course, Grandpa helped me in my first laps. But this time he could not run, though it was ok with me, I was soon pedaling all by myself. Grandpa still needed his nap, not me anymore. So I would wait for him very quietly, until he would wake up to take me for another ride around the block. This time, we took him to the park to kick some balls, but he would complain Miami was way too hot, he needed to sit down and watch us play. There is a saying that says: “all good things come to an end”. My grandparents went back to Argentina and I never saw him again. After a few months, he passed away. I still have the most terrific memories about my grandpa. I still have the now, “little red bike”. It is in a corner of the backyard, holding some pots with pretty yellow flowers. We all take special care of it, in memory of my Grandpa and that last unforgettable holiday.

Shopping During Christmas Essay

Shopping During Christmas Essay.

One year I learned the hard way about shopping the week of christmas. That one year it completely escaped my mind a few gifts that i forgot to purchase for some of my family. On a saturday morning i decided that i would venture out and try to find the last straggling few presents. I thought that if i left this early in the morning since lots of people wouldn’t be up this early on a saturday but boy was i wrong.

I asked my mom to drive me to the mall and when we got there i noticed how packed the parking lot was and how i couldnt see an empty parking space. When we finnaly found a parking spot we walked to the mall and i noticed through some of the windows that there were quite a lot of people walking in and out. Confused i continued to walk towards the mall doors until i got to the doors.

Immediately as i opened the door a burst of noise of people chattering away grew louder. I didn’t realize what i had gotten myself into that day. As i was walking in i noticed how beautiful the mall christmas decorations were. As i began walking i noticed most of the loud sounds were coming from families waiting in line to get their picture taken with santa. Lots of children were running around screaming and crying and giggling as they impatiently waited to get their pictures taken. As i continued through the mall i noticed how unpleasantly crowded it was.

Entering the first store on the top of my list i felt like i walked right into a war zone. Tons of people were pulling clothes out and waiting in line and trying things on. at that point i became overwhelmed with all the people. The place looked as if a tornado had just went by. I began lurking around trying to find something for my cousin who came here quite often to buy clothes. Eventually i had finally found something in the right size and color and patiently waited in line. I noticed how many people started cutting in front of other people and quickly became agitated. I spent a good 20minutes in that lineup before i left to go venture to the next store. It was around lunch time where i started feeling hungry since i had skipped breakfast to get to the mall a bit earlier. As i was approaching the foot court I Found the electronics store where i needed to get the next item for my friend. I Decided on going there first before getting something to eat. As i walked in it wasn’t as crazy as the clothing store but it was still pretty busy. as i entered some kids ran buy my feet and i lost my balance and knocked this remote car display over.

The store clerk immediately started getting upset at how it the display would be needed to be cleaned. I offered the store clerk my help and together cleaned up. As i was leaving the store i realized i had left my bag inside the store when i was cleaning. When i walked back in the bag was missing and the store clerk told me they hadn’t seen it. At that point i was very frustrated and went to the food court to get something to eat. As i was waiting in line at mcdonalds i wasn’t paying attention to my surroundings and a lady ran into me. The lady apologized to me and I said its fine. When we finished talking i realized i was out of the line.

Turning to the lady who was just behind me in the lineup and asking if i could have my spot back she angrily told me that i had stepped out of line and that it wasn’t my spot. At this point i was so frustrated i left the mall as quickly as i could. Running into a few people as i quickly left, many people were looking for good deals and low prices. As i finally got out of the mall i quickly to the car as i could. I learned the hard way that day that I shouldn’t leave things last minute like shopping or it would just not end well. I ended up not being able to give some of my friends a gift since i was so frustrated at being at the mall the week of Christmas day.

Why I Like Christmas Essay

Why I Like Christmas Essay.

People have many opinions and reasons about their favorite holidays, but out of all the holidays I would think that Christmas is the best above all. There are many reasons why I like Christmas, but only three matter the most to me. One of the reasons is because people get to exchange gifts with friends and family. The other reason is because of the foods, but the best part of Christmas is spending time with the family.

Exchanging gifts with friends and family is one great part to Christmas because everyone has fun receiving new things.

Another reason is because people get to give other people that warm joyful feeling inside. The best part of giving gifts is watching the people open the gifts that have been given to them. This always puts a smile on plenty of people’s faces.

The next reason why I like Christmas the most is because of the foods. In all families there are lots of traditional meals on Christmas Eve.

The best things I like about the foods are the desserts like cake, brownies, and other types of sweets. Family foods are also another way to have lots of joy on Christmas day.

I have listed two good reasons why I like Christmas above all holidays, but the main reason actually is because of the family. See most people have family all over the place so when the holiday comes around they all meet up and they all get full of joy for being able to finally see them again. Another reason why spending time with the family is the best is because you get to hear all of those great stories they tell. These are the main reasons why I like Christmas.

My Favorite Time of Year Essay

My Favorite Time of Year Essay.

My favorite time of the year is naturally the time when I have the most fun. To me, that time of the year falls during the December holidays, or rather, it starts during the last term of school. It may sound strange of me to include the period of examinations. But I like the way teachers leave us, students, by ourselves to do our own revision. There is hardly any homework to be done but there is a lot of studying to take up our time.

Finally, when the examinations are over, we can all heave a joyful sigh of relief and look forward to the seemingly eternal holidays stretching out before us.

Just before school breaks up for the holidays, there are a host of post-examination activities, among which is mass dancing in the school hall. This is something I enjoy very much as I get to dance to the newest pop music with all my friends. The opportunity to “break-free” from serious activities of school and to sing and dance there is a truly welcome event.

The last day of school comes and goes and the holidays start. The first thing I do is to go to the library and borrow as many books as possible to fill my holidays.

I simply love reading book after book without having to worry about putting aside time for schoolwork. I make it a habit to read books of a particular author each holiday. Within the second week of the holidays my birthday arrives, I enjoy helping my mother prepare my favorite food for my birthday. I do not have big birthday parties. My birthday is celebrated within the family and I eat all my favorite food, with several helpings. Of course, I enjoy receiving presents and birthday cards from family members and friends.

December is cool in Singapore and that is one reason why I appreciate the month so much. I do not like hot sunny. Christmas also makes the season all the more exciting. It would be impossible for me to sit at home and just read when so much is going on outside. Therefore, my friends and I take trips to Orchard Road, adding to the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping. We do not buy anything but just window shop leisurely and watch the excitement of Christmas shoppers. Orchard Road is illuminated with colorful lights for Christmas.

I usually view these lights twice; once before Christmas and once after, sometimes cruising along Orchard Road with my neighbor’s family in a rented van, alongside an ordered mass of other slow-moving vehicles. We usually have a good time on these trips, joking and laughing. Programs based on Christmas are also shown on television to add more joy to the season. I never tire of watching the animated cartoons or motion pictures of classics like “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens. Finally, after Christmas, I have to start buying my school-books for the new academic year.

These books have “off the press” smell which makes me feel that I have to work hard the following year and make good use of these brand new and precious books which no one has ever used before. The last day of the holidays is the end of my favorite time of the year and school starts the following day. I fell excited, but I also know that once school starts I would be caught up with work. However, I do know that the days will fly by so fast that I shall experience my favorite time of the year all over again.

Holidays & Christmas Carnivals Essay

Holidays & Christmas Carnivals Essay.

It is hard to find someone, who does not like Christmas. This is one of the most favorite holidays, when families get together, decorate the house, install Christmas tree, prepare some favorite meals, or even arrange parties. And, of course, give and receive presents! I had many interesting celebrations of Christmas, which were different from each other. Once in primary school we arranged a Christmas carnival. There was a beautiful Christmas tree, a lot of delicious meals and music, and, of course, Santa Claus with his presents for every child.

Once, on the day before the Christmas my parents decided to make some huge shopping. We bought full truck of the things for house, starting from armchairs, kitchenware, and ending with decorations. So we spent all the Christmas vacations enjoying our new stuff and arranging it. In my secondary school times I had a table mate, who happened to break her leg right on the eve of Christmas. So I bought some presents and chocolates for her, and went to the hospital to bring some happiness to that girl, whose family was rather poor.

When I was 14, we went to my aunt’s place for Christmas.

I spent some great time there, because I like my cousins very much and we always have a lot of fun together. We played games and had some amazing night forest hike in Christmas night. Two years later the family of my aunt joined my family in celebrating Christmas. So together with my cousins we went to a bowling club and had amazing evening of playing bowling. I proved to be really good in that! And then we had a good party at home again. Once, before having traditional Christmas family gathering, we went to a music club with my friends. There a female band named Rockland Ladies played live.

That was impressive: we were dancing and having pretty good time! The last Christmas I spent in a ski mountain camp with my university friends. We went to one of the ski resorts in Colorado and had some great Christmas vacations on the opened air! I think that it is wonderful to celebrate Christmas holiday in a new way every year. That is how I can recreate myself, have some perfect rest and get ready for a new year, and also receive many positive emotions and different unforgettable impressions.

Running allows you to use the time on the trail to clear your head and think about issues that you are struggling with. Often times the problems that seemed daunting before a run can seem smaller or non-existent afterwards. Speed running or completing a few sprints are healthy ways to release the emotional negativity that comes with anger and frustration as long as it is done safely.

The positive energy from overcoming obstacles of completing a run in a certain amount of time or meeting the goal of completing a distance run can provide mental benefits of helping you to learn about your personal strength and mental focus. This new found self-confidence and knowledge about yourself can also be transferred to other areas of your life and help you cope with issues in a healthy way. Whether you are running to lose weight, running alone or with a group, running away from stress, no matter the reason, the road to better health begins when you decide to lace up a pair of shoes and put on foot in front of the other.
