Internet Is a Double-Edged Sword Essay

Internet Is a Double-Edged Sword Essay.

Internet already becomes a part of most humen’s life. Most people would like to sit in front of a computer many hours. Young people would like to share their information on facebook than their parents. Knowing how internet effect people’s relationships to other people is important, because there is nothing can replace relationships in human’s life and very hard to fix it. First internet will increase loneliness. Acording to stoll, people who would like to spend time on internet will become more lonely.

“For every hour each week spent online, this group sharnk by about 4 percent.”(Iso, 1) It is very easy to understand. We only have 24hr each day. When a person spends more time on internet, he would spend less time with his family or real life friends. Those people who live with that person in real life will start leaving him.

However, those people who found out on the social network site will not stay online all the time.

During the blank time, this person will feel lonely. There is nothing in his life. When a person spends more time on internet, enjoy his own small world more, he is also kept away from outside by internet. Most people know, when those people who are falling in internet. they will not respond to any one, refuse any thing not relate with them, not eating any food until really hungry. If any one tries to stop those people in the middle, they will be yalled or scolded.

The effect is not very obsiver in the beginning. It will stack. Like a snow ball becomes bigger and bigger. Under this mode, people are selfcentered. People will be lonely by selfcenter, and be isolated by other people. Second, interenet is almost the fastest way to transfer messages and informations. It is good and bad. It is like a double-edged sword. Different way to use it, it will creat differet endings. Many scandals are released on internet first, than many people share or retwitter it. The imformation will not be able to control any more. The problems related with scandals will be solved by the pressure from publick opinion. Presidential election is a best very good example. Romney had almost as many supporters as Obama. After a vedio about a meeting between Romney and many rich supporters in a restauarnt, he lost a lot of supporters instantly. Romney and some of his suppoters’ relationships were totally over at that time. Romney tried to changed those supporters’ mind about that vedio, but it is way too hard to fix it.

On another hand, there are not only bad enddings. Those singers or movie starts use social network site to share their messages to their fans. Internet reduces the distence between people’s relationship. Those famous people would not be easy to meet in real life. Internet is the best way. Few weeks ago, there was a news related with a family and Facebook. A lady send a none sence messages on Facebook. Her hasband immidently realized his wife may suffered a heart attack. He called 911 and drive back to home. Because he descovered it early, his wife get rescued. Internet helped him protected this relationship. Thrid, internet is place can creat relationship.

In 20th century, many people start trying to find their wife or husband on social network site or online games. The relationship is very to creat and start compear with real life. People do not have to scare to be refused by a girl or a guy online. No one is watching beside. People will not feel too lose about refuse. Many girls or guys will accept it most time. They would like to give a try, because the person can be the right one. The relationship looks beautiful but it is made by glass. We never know how much lies covered by internet. It can be a fake relationship. Internet is only a tool. It will effect user and their relationship to other people. It is a knock-on effect. People is one who kick it. It still people effect relationship. The only difference is the way use internet.

Evaluating Internet Sources Essay

Evaluating Internet Sources Essay.

The Internet is a great place, especially for students, because it has a vast number of information that can be used for academic purposes.

Young people are very much updated when it comes to technology and prefers to do things with their gadgets and computers. Due to this, most companies and organizations have put up a website over the Internet so that they can reach out to everyone, anywhere in the world. However, putting up websites is not only for legitimate companies and organizations.

As a matter of fact, anyone can create a website about anything if they know how to read and click a mouse.

There are numerous websites over the Internet that are created by people who pose as someone who is knowledgeable about a certain topic but is completely the opposite when looked at closely. It is therefore important for students to learn how to evaluate Internet sources if they are valid and credible to be used for academic purposes. Robert Harris from the website Virtual Salt has come up with ways on how to evaluate Internet sources properly. He first advises researchers to determine what kind of information they are looking for because this way, it would be easier for them to screen the data that websites provide.

He then goes on to say that researchers should always look out for important information that websites should provide including the author, author’s title or position, author’s organizational affiliation, date of page creation or version, and author’s contact information (Harris, 2007). These would tell a researcher if the data posted on the website is valid and accurate enough to be trusted and used. Another important thing that students need to remember is the CARS checklist, which stands for credibility, accuracy, reasonableness, and support (Harris, 2007).

While credibility seems very hard to check, Harris provides ways to know if a particular source is credible. First, the author of the website or of a certain work should have his or her credentials posted on the website. Contact information should also be included. This way, people who want to communicate with the author would not have much difficulty trying to locate the author. A website can also be credible by undergoing quality control. Errors, either grammatical or technical, should make a person suspicious of the website’ credibility.

Researchers should also make sure that the information on the website is accurate and up-to-date. Thus, it is very important for authors and webmasters to constantly update their websites and see if changes should be made. They should indicate when a particular site was updated and created so that researchers would know if the whole website is still being monitored by the authors. All websites that tries to provide information to the public should never be biased. Content should be written with fairness and moderateness, according to Harris.

He indicates that if there is some hint of one-sidedness, researchers should think twice whether they should trust the website or not. Finally, information is always better if there are evidences that can support it. This is not to say that every website should have supporting material just for them to be considered “valid” in terms of evaluating them. However, there are some things that need support including statistical data or current events and certain things that people say should be documented especially if they are known people.

Many students are not aware that there are websites and other electronic types of information that should not be used for academic works. Some professors do not even allow their students to lift material from the Internet because of the damage it brings to their works. Still, it is hard for them to restrict students from Internet usage and this is why students and other researchers should learn how to evaluate Internet sources properly.

Internet Piracy Essay

Internet Piracy Essay.

Abstract

Internet Piracy has drastically affected the music and film industry and by downloading illegally on the Internet, millions of Internet users swap billions of dollars worth of music and movies. With all the sharing of copyrighted materials, the music and film industry is losing millions of dollars. This research looks into the effects of Internet Piracy and current campaigns to deter it. The study shows the effectiveness of existing campaigns and the relationship between the decline of the music and film industry and the rise of Internet Piracy.

Exploring the good and bad of campaigns and using the information to propose a documentary to approach the problem. Raising awareness and educate Internet users about Internet Piracy and try to have the numbers under control.

1. Introduction

“Fighting against Internet piracy and infringement is a long-term mission and an uphill journey.” – Yan Xiao Hong, Deputy Director, National Copyright Administration of China (quoted in AFP 2006)

The exchange of information is nothing new. Technologies change, cultures change, and people change, but in any point of human history there are people that copy and distribute the work of others in any form.

Technologies that help the production and distribution of information heavily influenced the shape of history, especially when it is accessible to larger population of people. From prints to recordable medias, every technology advances us nearer to today’s digital file sharing. Today, Internet pirates operate online stealing billions of dollars worth of digital content every year (Fisk, 2009).

By downloading illegally on the Internet, millions of users turned into pirates swapping billions of dollars worth of music and movies and other intellectual property that can be converted to digital format. With all the sharing of copyrighted materials, the music and film industry is losing millions of dollars (Fisk, 2009). Thus, Internet Piracy has drastically affected the music and film industry and Internet users need to be educated via a documentary on how to combat piracy in Singapore.

2. Findings & Analysis
2.1 Background

According to a trusted Internet survey, a staggering 70% of Internet users think there is nothing wrong with online piracy (Go-Globe, 2011). In the context of the U.S economy alone, there is $12.5 billion dollars in losses, more than 70,000 lost jobs, and $2 billion in lost wages thus far – Internet Piracy being the main cause. (Siwek, 2007). The niggling issue regarding Internet Piracy is severe. However, after decades and numerous efforts to stop it, the results of the actions taken by the entertainment and other industries have been futile, having no impact in reducing piracy amongst users. On the contrary, the rate of Internet Piracy has increased significantly in recent years, and the figure will only continue its growth (Cones, 2010).

2.2 Survey

Through a survey put up by me, the results gathered were not surprising. Eighty-four percent of the online users surveyed have downloaded media in the past month but sixty-two percent do not mind paying for these media. When asked if they know the consequences of downloading copyrighted contents, seventy-three percent knew of the consequences but fifty-four are not afraid of getting caught. This has further cemented the proof that the existing anti-piracy campaigns are not working. Although only thirty-five percent of interviewees are interested in taking part to combat Internet piracy, a slight increment of fourteen percent wants to be educated about piracy and fifty-four percent will watch documentaries about it.

2.3 Existing Campaigns

With this established, it is needless to say that existing anti-piracy campaigns and action taken thus far have had little to no effect. An example is of companies taking the issue to court.

There are two types of copyright infringement, civil and criminal and in both cases the users must be identified and evidence must be gathered before putting them into the arms of the law. In civil cases, copyright holders handle the process. In criminal cases, law enforcement units utilize different tools and techniques with variable reliability to gather evidence, often causing defragmentation in its accuracy. An example of one such unfortunate incident is the widely publicized lawsuit brought up by the RIAA against a deceased 83-year-old woman. She was accused of sharing over 700 songs under the username “smittenedkitten”. The case was later dropped by the RIAA after it was confirmed that the woman had never even owned a computer (Fisk, 2011).

Another movement to deter piracy was the introduction of the Digital Rights Management (DRM). This technology makes it difficult for users to make copies of content. DMCA also legally protects DRM, making it a criminal offense to remove DRM protection. At present, most media contains some form of DRM (Fisk, 2011).

Most DRM schemes, however, only provide protection temporarily. The protection can still be easily cracked by professional pirates and made widely available.

One popular movement most Internet users have occurred is the presence of a short video about piracy at the start of movies in cinemas and retail DVDs and VCDs. However, such a movement is to a degree, arbitrary, as the video’s primary target audience is piracy supporters. Ironically, this has, instead of deterring piracy, led to users turning to it in search for more ‘freedom’. The same content could be available online- and without the presence of irritating advertisements that “block” the movie itself.

2.4 Piracy Campaigns

Guerilla campaigning has been more successful amongst the campaigns. In August 21, 2006, an organization dubbed “The League of Noble Peers” released a documentary in support of Internet Piracy. The documentary “Steal This Film” was distributed freely on ‘BitTorrent’, a software frequented by Internet pirates to share copyrighted content. The film received wide positive reviews and was screened across film festivals from all around the world (King, 2008).

The campaign against Anti-Piracy is much more successful mainly because the pro-piracy organizations made use of the much hated force feeding methods deployed by copyright holders and make it to their benefits. Although misleading and being one-sided, the film is extremely effective and hence, manages to spur a movement against Anti-Piracy – The copyright holder’s plan backfired.

2.5 Good Campaigns

The first step to making a good campaign is to study what works and what do not. In this case it is quite obvious that the methods used by the “The league of Noble Peers” work and the copyright holders methods are not working. Hence, the best way to educate Internet users and combat piracy is to create an effective and different documentary and distribute it for free online.

The documentary “The Cove” is a good example of an effective and good documentary. By challenging the question head on with exclusive footage shot in a unique perspective, it managed to become one of the best and most influential documentaries that caused a movement with the intended and desired effect. A ninety-four percent positive rating from both Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB.com proved the huge positive reception for the documentary (Rotten Tomatoes Various Authors, 2009). Thus the model of a good documentary is effective at spreading information and educates people.

3. Conclusion

Internet Piracy, despite years of effort to deter it, the existing campaigns’ messages are not strong or effective enough to keep Internet Piracy at bay. Therefore, after studying the good and bad of these existing campaigns, a necessary solution has to be done to control the situation. Thus, after knowing the proven effect of a documentary, there is a need for a good documentary to educate online users about Internet Piracy to have the numbers within control. From the above analysis, making a documentary is one of the best options to try and deter the increase in Internet Piracy. With the documentary, more people will be aware of the issue and understand what the industry is going through with Internet Piracy currently affecting the market. Hence with the proposed documentary, results will be highly positive and have the number of Internet Piracy under control.

4. Recommendations

The documentary will be shot as an investigative documentary and the approach will not be a traditional documentary but a new approach similar to “The Cove”. The documentary will take viewers through the insights of local music and film industry, to introduce the hard work behind the contents they produced over the years. The film will gradually take a stand against Internet Piracy by showing the negativity, cause and effects to the economy due to illegal file sharing over the years.

The showing of such effects includes some potential creative firms closing down due to the decline in sales because of the act of downloading illegally. The documentary will take a turn in mood and attempts to go behind the scene to track down Internet pirates and following authorities to prosecute them. The documentary will end off with local musicians and filmmakers having their say against Internet Piracy. The film will be distributed for free over the Internet via torrent, streaming sites and file-sharing forums and hopefully on free-to-air television networks to increase exposure for the film.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Surfing the Internet Essay

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Surfing the Internet Essay.

It is now the 21st century and there is hardly anyone who has not been exposed to the Internet world. Nowadays, children would rather find entertainment on their laptops, iPads, and 3G phones, rather than going outside and playing a game of football with their friends.

The internet has played a very important role in our daily lives because of the advantages it brings. Firstly, it makes our work a lot easier. Students can find information for their studies and then type it out on their computer, rather than write it out on a piece of paper.

This has helped them save a lot of time.

Secondly, we are able to find out more about what is happening in the world. Because people all over the world is using the internet, we can get updated on news like politics, natural disasters, and even celebrity gossip. It has been predicted that newspapers will no longer be used in the near future, because the internet is much more efficient and quick.

Lastly, we are able to make new friends and connect with friends and family. Gone are the days of writing letters and long-distance calls, because now we can simply e-mail or video-call friends and family who live far away. The internet has brought a lot of people closer together.

The internet has also brought a lot of disadvantages into our lives. First of all, it is addicting. Many youngsters spend most of their time on the internet. This results in sickness, grades dropping, and loss of communication in the real world.

Secondly, the internet can influence the younger ones. Because it is so easy to find anything on the internet, they might be exposed to some sexual content or violence. They might also make bad friends on social networking sites. These ‘friends’ could trick them into giving out personal information to use for their own advantage.

In summary, I think that the internet can be useful to us, provided that we use it properly. Parents should keep an eye on their children who surf the internet to make it a safer experience for them.

Nicholas Carr vs Steven Pinker Essay

Nicholas Carr vs Steven Pinker Essay.

There is no doubt about it that in today’s generation the Internet is one of the best phenomenal creations invented. By simply having a computer, cell phone, tablet, ect, anyone and everyone can access the Internet. But can this powerful yet simple creation have a drastic effect on how the new generation operates today? The entire world is rapidly becoming obsessed; everywhere you look you’re bound to see something related to the Internet. Search engines, texting, twittering, blogging; to name a few.

We have all heard of at least one of those internet friendly applications. But can those applications become too friendly to the point where they are a distraction to the young mind? Can those applications hinder how the human brain functions? There are numerous arguments, views and statements regarding such an important question. Two writers that I researched share their opinions and views based off of how the internet has affected others intelligence today. These two writers go by the name of Nicholas Carr and Steven Pinker.

Without having any knowledge of what the articles are about one only needs to read there titles to distinguish the differences between the two. Where as Nicholas Carr’s article is titled, “Does the Internet Make You Dumber? ” Steven Pinker’s article is titled, “Mind over Mass Media”. Both writers have completely different types of titles but one can assume that they are responding to the same subject. After thoroughly reading both articles, Nicholas Carr and Steven Pinker have completely different views when it comes down to how the internet influences others.

Firstly, Nicholas Carr addresses heavily how in fact the internet does make you dumber. All throughout the article he gives examples of studies aimed at showing how the internet doesn’t positively contribute to the brain at all. As stated from the article Nicholas Carr explains how “People who read text studded with links, comprehend less than those who read traditional linear text. How, people who watch busy multimedia presentation remember less than those who take in information in a more sedate and focused manner”.

All of which are pretty apparent that the effect that the internet has on the mind is quite drastic. On the other hand, Steven Pinker’s article strongly disagrees at the fact that the internet affects the human brain. His defensive points primarily explain how without the internet a lot of today discoveries and new inventions wouldn’t be possible. Also he defends the fact that distraction or addiction is not a new phenomenon. Regardless of whether the internet is a popular utility or not, distraction would still be an occurring issue.

It is quoted: “If electronic media were hazardous to intelligence, the quality of science would be plummeting. ” Also, “Yes the constant arrival of information packets can be distracting or addictive, especially to people with attention deficit disorder. But distraction is not a new phenomenon. The solution is not to bemoan technology but to develop strategies of self-control as we do with every other temptation in life. ” Steven Pinker is trying to get the reader to understand that the internet doesn’t essentially make you dumber but it does hinge at one’s attention span.

Outside of the internet distractions are common everywhere. One can become distracted by their job, parents, work, internet, ect. Because of these interruptions Steven Pinker’s makes it known that all distractions require self-control. If one doesn’t have self control over an issue they will become addicted. Lastly my research wasn’t over. It wouldn’t be right if I didn’t get a third opinion to help provide some extra study. A third writer that I came across was a woman named Sherry Turkle.

Sherry Turkle has written a popular novel titled “Alone Together”. In the novel Alone Together author Sherry Turkle explains a third completely different concern on how technology affects the average American. This concern is in regards to how individuals will end up alone together because technology has distanced face to face relationships. That society expects more from technology and less from each other. Over the years Sherry Turkle has examined how technology has jeopardized the true meaning of hands on communication.

Although she does not mention how the internet may interfere with learning or brain capabilities she does still presents other exceptionally important factors. In conclusion, in comparison of the two primary articles that I researched I would ultimately have to agree with the Nicholas Carr piece. I feel as if the Nicholas Carr piece will convince more people. His article compared to Steven Pinker’s has a lot of legitimate studies and facts.

His studies included one conducted at Cornell University, where they conducted the laptop experience, which compared the effect of students who studied utilizing the traditional method of the library and those who studied using the laptop for research, with the conclusion that those who studied using the library grades were higher; studies from Stanford where they conducted a multi-tasking trial, also, studies from the University of California in San Francisco where they conducted a brain experiment.

Where, Steven Pinker’s article comes off as an opinion piece with little to no background information or supporting references. I would want to believe that the mind is in fact over mass media but Steven Pinker’s article doesn’t defend his title strongly at all. Thus, leaving me with the conclusion that the internet is a major distraction, can hinder how I use my brain properly, and can jeopardize my in person communication skills that I have available.

Electronic Bulletin Board for Slsu Gumaca Essay

Electronic Bulletin Board for Slsu Gumaca Essay.

As the trend of technology rises, there is a lot of improvement and other modifications has been taken place in every technology systems that are existing. Through the creative thinking of the people nothing is impossible when it comes to developing or improving new technology. Delaying information using communication devices, equipments and gadgets is not new anymore in the world of communication. It is very important to be transmitted must reach its recipient in the shortest possible time in order to obtain the essence of the information.

A bulletin board (pin board, pin board, notice board, or notice board in British English) is a surface intended for the posting of public messages, for example, to advertise items wanted or for sale, announce events, or provide information.

Bulletin boards are often made of a material such as cork to facilitate addition and removal of messages, or they can be placed on computer networks so people can leave and erase messages for other people to read and see.

Bulletin boards are particularly prevalent at universities. They are used by many sports groups and extracurricular groups and anything from local shops to official notices. Dormitory corridors, well-trafficked hallways, lobbies, and freestanding kiosks often have cork boards attached to facilitate the posting of notices. At some universities, lampposts, bollards, trees, and walls often become impromptu posting sites in areas where official boards are sparse in number. Internet forums are becoming a global replacement for traditional bulletin boards. Online bulletin boards are sometimes referred to as message boards. The terms bulletin board, message board and even Internet forum are interchangeable, although often one bulletin board or message board can contain a number of Internet forums or discussion groups.

An online board can serve the same purpose as a physical bulletin board. Magnet boards, or magnetic bulletin boards, are a popular substitute for cork boards because they lack the problem of board deterioration from the insertion and removal of pins over time. In the present society, competition is on its peak more specifically in the rapid growing technology. Technology advancement leads to more effective and progressive living. Technology conquers the world in terms of information and communication. As has been said all computers require a program, or a list of instructions to guide their activity. Sometimes the program is designed, or resides, within the hardware of the computer and cannot be changed without redesigning the hardware. More often the program is entered as software into memory and maybe easily removed or altered. (Grolier Family Encyclopedia, Vol. 5, p 150)

Information technology has become an increasingly important component of an organization. Technology facilities the ongoing of affirm have been contributing to its competitive strategy, and for those organizations, the key to survive is through the intelligent application of this technology. With the help of computer programs, any information and special announcements can become ease to forecast. Today, computers played an important role in every aspects of human living. Computer is a broad subject that includes a wide range of topics such as networking, software, hardware and the likes. Computers have the most development reported everyday. Such technology evolves, and benefits everyone a vast variety of modern equipment, net software that is important in this growing technological industry. (Scott F. Midkipp, 2003)

This study was designed to help SLSU Gumaca students in giving or forecasting information and special announcements in fast and accurate service at all times. Manual system of forecasting or announcing information of SLSU Gumaca is extremely time consuming and hardly be found. The study helps eliminate the problems encountered using the manual system. The chaos during forecasting of information and special announcements and the advancements in computer technology has pushed for the conversion of the manual system of forecasting information and special announcements into digital and electronic manner.

Background of the Study

The main purpose of the researcher is to improve the quality of giving information to all of the students of Southern Luzon State University Gumaca Campus, and to know how effective and productive it is in terms of the quality of execution and implementation. The researchers had proposed a system that is an improvement of bulletin board in the campus; the data/information would be displayed in a digital way and interpreted automatically, with the help of this, the students will have a convenience in knowing different essential announcements like schedules of examination, time schedule of daily activities of the institution, and other relevant information that students must know.

In connection to that the students will be informed well and the level of accuracy is highly acceptable in terms of receiving valid information. The hassle and the waste of time of distributing paper announcements and other sort of giving information to the students made the researchers decide to improve the system in order to meet the most desirability Since Information, in its most restricted technical sense, is a sequence of symbols that can be interpreted as a message. Information can be recorded as signs, or transmitted as signals. Information is any kind of event that affects the state of a dynamic system. Conceptually, information is the message (utterance or expression) being conveyed and also that’s one of the reasons behind why the researchers decided to make it electronic and digital for it to be decoded easily.

Objectives

The researchers aimed to answer the following sets of objectives that are worthy for the system evaluation: 1. To determine different problems in giving information using papers and other resourced materials. 2. To evaluate the design of the newly improved bulletin board in SLSU Gumaca. 3. To evaluate the performance of the Bulletin Board in terms of the execution of the programs and other templates. 4. To determine the significant difference between the old ways and modern ways of giving information to the students.

Significance of the study

The study deals with the A Electronic Bulletin Board for SLSU Gumaca Campus”. This study will help the researchers and all of the Students of SLSU Gumaca to determine the importance of giving information through Digital Electronic Bulletin Board. The old or manual systems of forecasting information to the students would then be replaced by the highly advanced improvement of technology.

For the future researchers, this study will serve as a guide for them if ever they will be conducting this kind of project study. For the Students of SLSU
Gumaca, it will be an effective way of receiving a valid, real time information.

A bulletin board system, or BBS, is a computer system running software that allows users to connect and log in to the system using a terminal program. Once logged in, a user can perform functions such as uploading and downloading software and data, reading news and bulletins, and exchanging messages with other users, either through email, public message boards, and sometimes via direct chatting. Many BBSes also offer on-line games, in which users can compete with each other, and BBSes with multiple phone lines often provide chat rooms, allowing users to interact with each other. Originally BBSes were accessed only over a phone line using a modem, but by the early 1990s some BBSes allowed access via a Telnet, packet switched network, or packet radio connection.

Ward Christensen coined the term “bulletin board system” as a reference to the traditional cork-and-pin bulletin board often found in entrances of supermarkets, schools, libraries or other public areas where people can post messages, advertisements, or community news. By “computerizing” this method of communications, the name of the first BBS system was born: CBBS – Computerized Bulletin Board System. During their heyday from the late 1970s to the mid-1990s, most BBSes were run as a hobby free of charge by the system operator (or “sysop”), while other BBSes charged their users a subscription fee for access, or were operated by a business as a means of supporting their customers.

Bulletin board systems were in many ways a precursor to the modern form of the World Wide Web, social network services and other aspects of the Internet. As the use of the Internet became more widespread in the mid to late 1990s, traditional BBSes rapidly faded in popularity. Today, Internet forums occupy much of the same social and technological space as BBSes did, and the term BBS is often used to refer to any online forum or message board. Although BBSing survives only as a niche hobby in most parts of the world, it is still an extremely popular form of communication for Taiwanese youth (see PTT Bulletin Board System). Most BBSes are now accessible over Telnet and typically offer free email accounts, FTP services, IRC and all of the protocols commonly used on the Internet. Some offer access through packet switched networks, or packet radio connections.

Early BBSes were often a local phenomenon, as one had to dial into a BBS with a phone line and would have to pay additional long distance charges for a BBS out of the local calling area. Thus, many users of a given BBS usually lived in the same area, and activities such as BBS meets or get togethers were common, where users of the board would gather at a local restaurant, the sysop’s home or similar venue and meet face to face.

People use these modern techniques everywhere and any time because they are portable, compact and may contain a lot of info compared with diskets or tape recording. For example, we can take Mp3 or DVD-players with us during the travelling or going to somewhere. And these devices don’t claim more place than oldest.

Moreover, we are able to record not only music or movies, but also educational programmes. These type of technologies have some opportunities. For instance, it can work without electricity and it is easy to handle. Besides, they have additional devices earphones in order not to distract other people. On the other hand, Mp3 or DVD-players have some drawbacks. I mean, they cause sometimes incidents (stray off the environmental around). As an example, while crossing the street or driving transport facilities, which even be reason for an accident. To sum up, I agree that today Mp3 or DVD-players play a great role in human’s life. And these easy movable techniques have both advantages and disadvantages. However, I think that there are more merits than demerits.

Nowadays, hi-tech products like Mp3 players or DVD-players have become common parts of human life. I made some changes. I also made it so that “human” is used as an adjective. It is not wrong the way you did it, but this change makes it sound nicer.

You can always just say “going somewhere” and not going to somewhere. For example, we can take Mp3 or DVD-players with us during the travelling or going somewhere.

Advantages and disadvantages of entertainment online There are plenty of options available for entertainment online, particularly due to the onset of internet and the fast speeds which keep increasing these days. While it is reasonable for parents to be concerned about some aspects of this entertainment online, it is important to note that the internet offers plenty of choices that are both useful and knowledgeable for kids both young and old. For instance, toddlers can enjoy music and pictures online.

However, for older kids, parental control is obviously always advised to limit the entertainment online to those selections which are appropriate for the kids’ ages. Like everything else, entertainment online has both advantages and disadvantages. The goal of all parents and guardians must be to use it for educational and appropriate entertainment purposes and have some control on the sites that the kids can browse.

Not only will this help them to learn how to use the internet in a positive way, but it will also build healthier relationships between you and your kid. Studying, researching, school assignments all require google and other search engines. Therefore, showing your child the ways of the internet and how to locate information can be extremely useful for their future.

Technology as a double-edged weapon Essay

Technology as a double-edged weapon Essay.

We live in a generation that relies heavily on technology and on the Internet. People spend much time online on the Web, whether for work, school or University homework, for fun or just for social networking. So, for this main reason this issue of excessive use of technology and the Internet is a topic of great interest for all of us. That’s why we decided to do our research project related and based on the different types of websites that are of main interest for the people.

First of all, we will start talking a little bit about the technology and the Internet in general. When we look at any dictionary for the definition of technology they define it as: “the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon industry such subjects as arts, engineering, applied science , and pure science … “, and definitely, that is it.

Over the years, we have seen the evolution of technology. Technology and Global Change describes how technology has shaped society and the environment over the last 200 years.

Technology has led us from the farm to the factory to the internet, and the impacts are now global. The technology is growing so fast. Now you do not need to send a letter by mail and wait days to be received, you just send an email and it will be received immediately. This is an example of how the technology has changed. This is a very useful tool and certainly our generation relies heavily on her, especially when we talk about the Internet. This has become the everyday use of millions of people around the world of all ages, children, teenagers, adults, and including grandparents. Use of internet has grown a lot since it was introduced in the world. Used for a multiple things either for the workplace, entertainment or informative. The Internet has brought a transformation in many aspects of life. Nowadays one can access the internet easily, from your computer, iPod, iPad, cellphone, etc. It is one of the biggest contributors in making the world into a global village. Now, let’s talk specifically about the websites. It is a connected group of pages on the World Wide Web regarded as a single entity, usually maintained by one person organization and devoted to a single topic or several closely related topics.

A website is a set of related web pages that contains text, images, video, audio, etc. It is hosted on at least one web server, accessible via a network such as the Internet or a private local area network. How many different Internet pages exist? Of course, there are hundreds of millions and all for multiple uses. The Internet is a network of computers that offer access and information to people. To use the Internet, you run many different programs depending on the type of information you wish to view. Our specific research, will be evaluating the various and diverse websites that exist and which are the most used by people either in general or between adolescents that spend a lot of time on the internet. We will also be evaluating their uses and why people consider them as important in their use. Also we will be evaluating and comparing some surveys conducted by Internet and other related by ourselves to the issue of websites.

We will be focusing on three specific types of websites: educational use, social networks and websites of enjoyment and entertainment. In May 2012, McAfee conducted an online survey in the United States to determine which were the favorite websites for teenagers. Youth between the ages of 13 and 17 responded to the survey for a total population of 1,004 responses. The results of the top three were as follows: first place was Facebook, then Twitter and in third place, Google+. But these are not the only ones that was mentioned, in the survey also appears Tumblr, 4chan, Pinterest, and Myspace. When we see these findings, these results seemed very peculiar and interesting and that is why we base our investigation on this topic. As we analyzed these results, we though the idea of doing a simple survey to see if the results of the online survey conducted in the United States in May 2012 by McAfee coincided with our friend’s opinion. Thus, we launched an online survey. What we did? Our first step was randomly select 30 people between the ages of 17-21. We conducted the survey with three simple questions.

The first question that we make was based on how many daily hours the adolescents spend on the Internet. This is because we know that nowadays the adolescents spend a lot of time in the internet and we want to found make a survey that support our opinion. In our survey only two people responded that they were on the Internet just between 1 to 2 hours, by other hand, 12 others said that they spent between 3-4 hours and 16 respondents said that they spent more than four hours on the Internet. This first question not only tells us that most of the people spend more than four hours online, but it makes us think that probably many of these young people just have an addiction in spending so much time on the internet daily. We have to be very careful with this and one important thing that we must keep in mind always is that we must establish control and balance in our time. Excessive use in a computer can become dangerous.

It can affect multiple things: even our sight until we get time to rest or to share with family and friends. Inclusive, according to new research, teens that spend an unreasonable amount of time on the Internet could be at increased risk of depression because they are alone in a computer without a social life. This can also be reflected in the body of the young. Both in the United States and Puerto Rico, there is a big problem of obesity in young people. Many of the conditions blamed for obesity in American teenagers also affect Puerto Rico: families that work more and eat fewer meals at home, in some neighborhoods a fear of crime that keeps children indoors, but mainly, due to the excessive time spent by youth in front of the computer. For this reason, is very important to remain that we all need to exercise and eat healthy to maintain a good body and good health and spend less time in the Internet. We can’t spend all the time in the internet.

The second question in our survey was: what is your main reason for using the Internet? And the results were: 17 people said for social and interaction, 10 said for entertainment and only 3 people said for education. This worried us a lot because these results reflect the loss of time on the Internet youth instead of spending time with their studies. That’s why we emphasize again the creation of a good balance in our time. The third and final question was: Which is your favorite website? And the results were: Facebook was the favorite for 21 people, Twitter was the favorite to 8 and only one person said Google. Facebook has over one billion active users, more than half of them using Facebook on a mobile device. This social network is considered like an addiction for a lot of people. Internet addictions, especially to social media, have been well documented. And the truth is that we’re feeling like we might have a touch of Facebook addiction.

Is this addiction real, though? In China, Taiwan and South Korea “Internet Addiction Disorder” is already accepted as a psychological diagnosis. Facebook and Internet addiction can have damaging effects, such as a decrease in our attention span. In fact, since 2000, our collective attention span has decreased by 40%. Researchers in Norway have published a new psychological scale to measure Facebook addiction, the first of its kind worldwide. They hope that researchers will find the new psychometric tool useful in investigating problem behavior linked to Facebook use. With this research information, we can conclude that Facebook, like many other social networks, are not only an addiction in Puerto Rico and the United States, but is a huge problem worldwide. It’s a double-edged sword for sure.

That is why we must be careful. This does not mean that all social networks are bad or should not exist. Only we want to create awareness among people and be realistic. Today we all have access to technology, the Internet and multiple websites, but we only want to emphasize that we must be careful not to fall into addiction. All this can be a great resource and a great help to our education, academic preparation, in the work, and to socialize, so let’s make our own balance in the use of them. Besides the Internet, there are many books that can be of great help. All resources are always there. It is in us to use them as an advantage and not allow them to become our double-edged weapon.

Computers are considered to be one of the greatest discoveries of the 20th Century. As time goes on, computers have become more and more important in our lives. We use computers at school, at home, and at work and most of us can’t imagine life without them. One of the many uses of computers is used in communicating within the country or even around the world where there is Internet access.

The Internet has become a fully integrated part of our society, touching many aspects of our business and personal lives.

The Internet is so incredibly popular because it enables us to not only quickly access information from sources all over the world, but also transfer information quickly and easily. Businesses were quick in seeing the benefits the Internet would provide their companies.

MRM Trading is still in the process of development and modernization. The use of its own web site will make the company more popular and can even make it more competitive.
