One Lie Leads to Another Lie Essay

One Lie Leads to Another Lie Essay.

Saira was a sixteen-year-old girl. She belonged to a middle class family and had a friend, Amna, who belonged to a very rich family. Amna was not good at studies like Saira and talked all the time about fashion, jewellery, concerts and parties, etc. Saira also wanted to do all the things that Amna did. One day Amna told her that she is going to Pak Towers with some other friends and asked her to join them. Saira knew that her parents would never allow her to go with Amna but this time she really wanted to have fun so she decided to go with them.

Amna was very happy that Saira would be joining them.

Next day, Saira told her mother that she would be late from school as there was an extra class. She felt uneasy about lying to her parents but then she was satisfied telling herself that this was fun she deserved.

After some days Amna again asked her to join them as they were going to some concert and she wanted her to go too.

Saira again gave the same reason to her parents knowing that there’s no way they would ever find out and thus these excuses continued, her studies were also affected.

One day her mother noticed that some money was missing from her purse as well as from father’s drawer. Saira knew that if her mother found out that she had stolen the money, she would be very cross. As she was very afraid and did not want her mother to find out that she goes out with Amna and had stolen money for that purpose, she lied and said she did not know about it.

Her mother started scolding their maid thinking that she was the culprit. The maid was terrified and started crying, which made Saira feel guilty. She thought for a moment and realized that it would be very wrong for the poor maid to be punished for a crime that Saira had committed. She was frightened deep inside but she also wanted to save the innocent maid so she decided to lie yet once again. She ran to her mother and said that she had stolen the money to buy some books to get good grades. Her mother was astonished and told her that next time she should ask her for the money.

When her school progress report came, Saira’s mother was very annoyed. She scolded her a lot and told her that she will talk to her teacher about the matter. This was the worst time in the sixteen years of her life. She realized that each lie puts a person in more trouble than the one she was already in. She set aside her fear and told the truth and made a firm resolve never to lie again.

Truth vs. Lying Essay Essay

Truth vs. Lying Essay Essay.

Everyone knows that you should try to be truthful. However, sometimes it is not always that easy to tell the truth sometimes we lie. Reasons for lying could be we are afraid of the unknown, we are afraid of what others might think of us, we are afraid we will be found out or maybe we are trying to protect someone else’s feelings by lying to them. With these reasons one might say that it is easier to lie than to tell the truth.

Perhaps it would be easier if we all just lied.

There are advantages and disadvantages to telling the truth. An advantage to telling the truth is being able to talk about things without fear of ramifications. For example if you are in the Principal’s office and the Principal is asking you what happened and if you tell the truth then you are able to talk about it without fear of the ramifications. A disadvantage for being honest would be the ramifications if you saw your friend stealing and told the truth you might lose your friendship.

Another disadvantage of telling the truth would be that you might say something one day and it might comeback to bite you. From these examples we can see that there are more disadvantages than advantages to being honest. In contrast there are advantages and disadvantages to being dishonest. For example if you are in the principal’s office and they ask you about an incident and you lied about it and you make it convincing enough you appear honest and avoid facing ramifications.

Another advantage is that if you know something about your friend but it might hurt their feelings then if you lie about it then you do not hurt your friend’s feelings like in April Raintree by Beatrice Cullenton when April les to Cheryl to avoid hurting her feelings. Another disadvantage of being dishonest would be that if you lie to somebody and then they find out you lied you might lose their friendship. A final advantage of lying is that if you know something confidential telling the truth would reveal the secret thus it would be better to lie about it.

As shown by these examples we can see it is more advantageous to be dishonest than disadvantageous. One might tell you that being honest is the way to go. However as shown clearly by the examples presented in this essay we can make the deduction that this is not the case. It is clearly demonstrated that being dishonest is the better option because there are more disadvantages to being honest and more advantages to being honest. In my thesis I asked would the world be better off if we all just lied would it be simpler maybe but I leave that up to you.

The first type of lies are good lies. People are lying to save face or to maintain them reputation. If you do not want someone to knew about that what you did when you were drunk, you would lie. Lies to save face are the most popular because people often are doing a lot of stupid things. Others are lying to avoid punishment.

Truth Is Truth, Lying Is Lying Essay

Truth Is Truth, Lying Is Lying Essay.

Judith Viorst describes in her essay “The Truth about Lying,” a very interesting and intellectual composition. The author has made a great exertion to try to present four different kinds of lies people tell in their daily life. She has separated them into four sub-groups: Social Lies, Peace-Keeping Lies, and Protective Lies, and Trust-Keeping Lies, and uses headings to separate them. She has used a lot of different techniques to convey her message to the reader. Over all she has used simple but accurate language to talk with the reader.

She often repeats: “Do you agree? ” or “What about you? Viorst begins her essay by describing how she contrasts herself to society which lies about lying. It was very difficult to her to do it. Finally she reached to present conclusion, a series of moral puzzles all concerned with lying, and she tells us what she thinks about them. Social Lies, in the form of little white lies, says Viorst, satisfactory and required to behave.

Most people think it is assailing to be clear honesty without these little white lies, they say, our relationships would be short and ferocious and yucky-yucky. Our honesty can be painful and embarrassing.

Viorst goes on to ask several examples of questions there the society insincerely, disingenuously lies. You know! Viorst goes on to refer to one person who absolutely rejects telling social lies. “I can’t play that game,” he speaks; “I’m simply not made that way. ” And his answer to the argument that saying nice things to someone doesn’t cost anything was, “Yes, it does-it destroys your credibility. ” Now, he won’t offer his views on the painting you just bought, but you don’t ask his frank opinion unless you want frankness and his quietness at those moments when the rest of the liars are speak softly, “Isn’t it lovely? was, for the most part, eloquent enough.

Her friend does not humor in what he calls “flattery, false praise and mellifluous comments. ” When others tell fibs he will not go along. He says that social lying is lying, that little white lies are still lies. And he feels that telling lies was morally wrong. Viorst goes on to say that many people tell Peace-Keeping Lie to avoid irritation or arguments, lies designed to shelter the liar from possible blame or pain. Lies rationalized designed to keep trouble at bay without hurting.

But during to tell these lies, Viorst feels guilty herself. She understands why they tell lye. And whenever she lies so that someone won’t disapprove of her or think less of her or holler at her, she feels she is a little of a shy, she feels she tricks her responsibilities. To continue Viorst goes on asking questions for example there we, (society), are lying because of fear to look bed. Viorst recalls about Dave and his wife Elaine. Dave blames Elaine in a coward. Because she lies to her mother to protect her.

Further Viorst provides several examples of telling lies to keep peace. The author introduces Protective Lies like contrast to Peace-Keeping Lie. Protective lies preserve to a person thereof you lie. “They lie, not for personal gain” but because they love… (And again she represents examples. ) But sometimes society lies for manipulation and control, says Viorst. It is us “playing God. ” and one thing more: – it happens to lie again and again to back up previous lie. Further Viorst touched on sex lie theme.

She starts it by expect some may think sex lie unimportant, a little more than social lying, not more than politeness that makes all human intercourse, like lubricant, to run swimmingly. Others, supposedly, sex lie unacceptable on behalf of relationships as destructive phenomenon. But there are third kinds of people, who consider sex lie. They, actually, mean sex lie protects relationships because everybody’s ego is sometime fragile. To continue Viorst cites a quotation of Sue. Sue asks a question: “I can’t believe it’s good to say, ‘Last night was four stars, darling, but tonight’s performance rates only a half.

Viorst is inclined to agree with Sue. Another group, Viorst continued, of lies are trust-keeping lies, lies that involve triangulation, with A (that’s you) telling lies to B on behalf of C (whose trust they’d promised to keep). Most people concede that once they’ve agreed not to betray a friend’s confidence, they can’t betray it, even if you must lie. But she’s talked with people who don’t want you telling them anything that they might be called on to lie about. Viorst recites “I don’t tell lies for myself,” says Fran, “and I don’t want to have to tell them for other people.

Which means, she agrees, that if her best friend is having an affair, she absolutely doesn’t want to know about it? Are you saying,” her best friend asks, “that if I went off with a lover and I asked you to tell my husband I’d been with you, that you wouldn’t lie for me, that you’d betray me? ” Fran was very pained but very adamant. “I wouldn’t want to betray you, so … don’t ask me. ” Fran’s best friend is shocked. Viorst asks: “Do you believe you can have close friends if you’re not prepared to receive their deepest secrets?

And what if your friend was your boss-if you were perhaps one of the President’s men-would you betray or lie for him over, say, Watergate? As you can see, these issues get terribly sticky. It’s my belief that once we’ve promised to keep a trust, we must tell lies to keep it. I also believe that we can’t tell Watergate lies. And if these two statements strike you as quite contradictory, you’re right-they’re quite contradictory. But for now they’re the best I can do. ” “Some say,” Viorst is asking questions, “that truth will come out and thus they might as well tell the truth.

Some say they can’t regain the trust that lies lose. Some say that even though the truth may never be revealed, our lies pervert and damage our relationships. Some say … well, here’s what some of them have to say. ” “I’m a coward,” says Grace, “about telling close people important, difficult truths. I find that I’m unable to carry it off. And so if something is bothering me, it keeps building up inside till I end up just not seeing them anymore. ” She lies to her husband on sexual things, but she was furious,” says Joyce, “that he was too insensitive to know she was lying.

She suffered most from the misconception that children can’t take the truth,” says Emily. “But she was starting to see that what’s harder and more damaging for them were being told lies, was not being told the truth. Lying isn’t social category, I think. It is moral category. And humanity has received morality from God. Us inference, we cannot investigate lie without God or without Bible. We have to research this phenomenon in human mutual relations through prism of Bible. Without it all reasoning will be just words and conclusions will be false. And why Viorst doesn’t make conclusions? What do you mean?

Lying and Why It Is Wrong Essay

Lying and Why It Is Wrong Essay.

Lying is wrong on so many levels…many of the topics relating to lying are through trust. Tust is a big issue in modern America, including losing it, the lack of trust from American to American! We cant trust each other, no matter what happens to a fellow friend. My youth pastor shawn and I had a very good discussion about the positives and negatives through lying. Through our discussion, he couldn’t stress enough about trust within the other people.

He got caught lying by his parents when he was sixteen.

He could not go past san Pedro to surf, and one day he was going surfing and told his parents he was going to San Pedro to surf. While he was heading to long beach to surf, he got a ticket, and his mother had to go to teen court with him and found out the he was going to long beach, and got caught within his lie. As for his punishment, he got his keys taken away for a while, as well as having to call and check in with his parents all the time.

This happened to me as well, when I got caught drinking going in to my sophomore year, I remember having to ride home every 2 hours to check in with you guys.

He said that was horrible, and I could not agree more. “Thou Shalt Not Lie” (10 commandments). This is a sin through God when you lie, so by lying you are hurting god with what you say. God is our father in heaven and he ulitimately is what we believe in as Christians. Lying is wrong and the people that I have talked to could not stress this enough to me. Punishment for lying should be hard, because lying is such a horrible thing to do. Though we know this as human beings, we cannot help ourselves but to lie at least one point in time.

I personally feel that no matter what we do, we lie at a point in our life and the punishment from that is having to deal with someday sitting in front of God and having to look him in the eye when he asks, “now why did you say that” or “What happened here, why did you do that instead of telling the truth?!?!!? ”. The punishment from god will level on you much heavier than anything, when you lie, you should not be afraid of what your earthly parents will do to you, but on What God thinks of you as you go through this lie. Job 11:3,5, “Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?

But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;” This quote explains everything I have just said. God loves you no matter what you do and as long as you repent, he will have unending mercy on you. The main reason for a lie is because you are ashamed of the truth. You shouldn’t be ashamed of the truth when you lie, you should be ashamed that you lied. Lying is more of a sin that murder, because it is so much easier to do than murder, we lie every day and feel nothing. There is no worry about what the future will hold when we lie but when you murder someone, you are constantly afraid for your future.

White Lies Essay

White Lies Essay.

White lies are not acceptable in business or anywhere else for that matter. Telling a lie, either a grave lie or white lie, contradicts the absolute of truth, therefore making it wrong. Many people view white lies as harmless or innocent, but what they do not realize are the potential consequences of even a small lie. A white lie can be the beginning for another lie to cover that lie, which will cover another lie and so forth. Lying is always a snowball effect because it is the only way to mask other lies.

In business, there is an ethical way of conducting dealings and that is the honest way. Since many things are at stake in a company, such as jobs, employees, stakeholders, and profits, a simple lie may affect every area. Before even contemplating telling a white lie, one must first think of the entire company and how that small lie may affect others and the company itself. If white lies were acceptable practice, it would affect business greatly because there would little or no trust.

The lack of trust and respect would make it more difficult for companies to reach agreements and terms of contracts. As is common to say, “Honesty is the best policy,” which remains true in every area of business. No deed goes unpunished, and even though a simple white lie seems harmless, it can lead to bigger problems that originally intended for. Also, the people who grow accustomed to telling white lies are the ones who become desensitized and will be more apt to telling larger lies. These are the people who end up committing corporate fraud and bring their entire careers or companies down.
