There are many opportunities that developing nations such as Mauritius offer. With a society that wishes to be worldly and up-to-date as well as a tourist industry that brings in people from all over the globe, Mauritius can offer True Religion Jeans an entirely new group of potential consumers, in a new and exciting location.

I work in a mix residential home for the elderly, some of the clients, Dementia range from mild to severe. The clients are raised in a very different way to how I was raised and it is important that I must remember this and respect their this as we all have personal beliefs and preferences based on our background and upbringing. I have been brought as a Muslim where religious education was compulsory, however we still studied various other religions and were taught to respect all people and there beliefs.

Prayers were a daily thing at the end of each assembly and whether or not I wanted to pat attention to the prayer time again I had to respect the people that did. Religion may affect people in many different ways, mainly because we all come from different backgrounds and are taught differently. However, it is important to respect how people honor their religion.

I am an atheist however I still make time to talk to my clients about their religion even though my own beliefs it is not some thing that I choose to do as I know it makes the client happy it makes me happy to do this as I know it is some thing that they feel so strongly in and it is amazing at how much I really now look forward talking about it.

It is part and parcel of the work that I do and part of showing the clients that we care about what makes them happy and respect their beliefs even if ours are different.

It is important to remember that my own personal preferences are different to others and I can’t expect others to think, act and feel the same way as I do. For example I like to shower daily and some times twice daily, some of my clients do not like water and some really do not like showers or baths I have to respect there decision if they prefer not to have one and explain if possible that it is in, religion to smell nice and clean if they ignore this is in religion only but what they have to understand its nature to try and stay clean.

This paper is to discuss my experience on a trip to Orlando, what I saw and what value those experience had for me as an expression of 21st century culture in this country. Some connections discovered between the event and different topics we have been reviewing on this course will also be discussed. Cultural Event As a great fan of visual arts of any kinds with special interest in sculpture and figurative art painting, I visited a place called “Holy Land Experience” in Orlando, Florida because of what I’ve heard about the place, how they showcase ancient Jewish architectural designs, ancient history of Jerusalem and key biblical histories.

It was meant to be a vacation trip with the intention of giving the family a treat; however the visit to this Christian theme park ended up being educational for me more than it was a thrill for the family. Beautiful buildings bringing to life ancient Jewish architectural designs, what with all the workers dressed in traditional Jewish attire even men wearing gowns and covering their heads with scarves exactly as described in some of the books read in the past on Jewish cultures.

With their long beards, those men made the place looks almost like a modern day bible story land and getting to the Jerusalem street market, we had an opportunity to travel back in time to an ancient land that is 2000 years old and thousands of miles away from United States. Passion dramas and live religious shows emphasizes the rich Jewish ancient culture of Passover, that is the eight-day festival celebrated in the early spring from the 15th to the 22nd day in the Hebrew month of Nissan.

This festival is to celebrate the deliverance of Jewish people from Egypt after many years of slavery. Local foods from traditional Seder favorites like brisket and matzoh ball soup to kosher-for-Passover, yeast-less cookies and brownies were all displayed during the live shows, to again make visitors experience nearly as real as possible. They also have a scriptorium museum; center for Christian Antiquities where some defaced historical items are kept for display.

Among these antiquities found in this scriptorium museum are parts of the remains of Noah’s ark. It is just an imitation of the real but constructed in such a way to make it look as real as it can be. Despite we are in the 21st century, most people in this country still connect or relate with one religious value or the other. So as a Christian, who has never been to Israel to see firsthand these historical sites, the art impressions at “Holy Land Experience” reenact biblical histories.

Some of the histories like the birth, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ who is the founding figure of Christian faith and other histories that surround him as recounted in the bible and other literatures I’ve read in the past are more real after visiting this site. I discover that since I have visited the “Holy Land Experience” my connection with Christian faith has been stronger than ever and now the image of those historical sites visited lingers in my memory.

We now also take communion at home on a regular basis in remembrance of how Jesus Christ broke the bread which symbolizes his body and share the wine which symbolizes his blood with his disciples before his crucifixion. Conclusion Relating this experience with ideas and themes we’ve been talking about on this course, I can conclude that though Christianity has evolved in many ways, there are still a lot of similarities in the Christian cultural patterns and traditions when compared with the early days.

One of the most important moments in my spiritual life was when I was prophesied to about the calling on my life and when I received my gifts of the spirit. I was in church on September 10, 1999 and my pastor at the time was praying for people to receive healing, blessings, confirmations of Something God had spoken to them and to be released from unclean spirits through the laying on of hands and the movement of the Holy Spirit. The church was a small mobile home unit in a rundown part of Panama City, Florida which seated maybe 40 people.

It had cheap, white paneling on the walls and bluish-grey hard knit carpet on the floor. My pastor was dressed in a grey three-piece suit standing in front of the church facing the congregation and the co-pastor dressed in a two-piece tan suit was standing to his right ready to catch anyone who was overcome by the Holy Spirit.

I had seen people with severe colds healed instantly, I saw an elderly lady who walked with a limp because one leg was shorter than the other have her leg grow to equal the other leg in the pastors hand.

The week before a female church member who for 15 years was living her life in a wheelchair because she was paralyzed from the waist down after attempting suicide stand up and walk. I saw these miracles and many more happen in this church. I knew that by the leading of the Holy Spirit that anything was possible because of the miracles I had seen God manifest there. It was to my turn to receive prayer and I was ready to receive whatever God was going to reveal to me that day.

The night before I was in my co-pastors home discussing the Holy Spirit and was baptized in the Holy Spirit. I stepped up to the pastor and waited for him to lay hands on me and begin to pray. The Holy Spirit began to move and the pastor began to pray in tongues and he revealed to me through the Holy Spirit that I was called in to a ministry of teaching and healing through laying on of hands. The Word of God had always been important to me but after that day it was like I needed it more than the air I breathe. The Word of God truly became my life source and my ministry of teaching became my number one priority.

Since that day I have had many battles with the enemy and have tried to stay in my ministry but unfortunately like any human I failed God more than once. I have been in and out of church off and on since then and I have honestly at one point live for the pleasures of this world. I never gave up on my calling I just put it on the back burner and I let God down. There are times that I feel like the man in the parable of the talents who was given one talent and hid it until the master came back, but now I am back on track and am heading toward my true calling once again. I am taking these classes to get my degree in ministry and leadership so that someday I will be able to hopefully pastor a church if God has it in his will for me. I had grown weary of failing God and not answering my call.

This is my memory of an important time in my spiritual life and where it has brought me. I have been down some rocky roads in my life and failed God miserably along the way, but I am so thankful he is a merciful God and forgives us no matter how much we fail him. I am thankful that I am able to be in the church I am in, the father I am to the most beautiful baby girls in the world, married to the beautiful and loving woman I am married to, and am able to come back to the calling God has on my life and fulfill his prophesy he proclaimed over me that September day so many years ago. My memory helps me remember to heed to the call and use my talents to the best of my ability.

Living and perpetuating a life of peace are central to the Christian and Jewish religious expressions. The teachings of peace which underpin both Christianity and Judaism are existent in their sacred texts; The Bible for Christians, The Torah and Mishnah Torah for Jewish adherents. Albeit peace is of paramount importance to both traditions, the concept of peace is expressed differently. Christians believe the only way complete peace can be attained is through the full acceptance of Jesus Christ, the incarnate.

Analogously, Jews believe that true peace can only ever be attained is if the person achieves inner peace, through the development of potent interrelationships with the divine realm, humanity as a collective can bind together through the likeliness and guidance of the monotheistic, metaphysical divine being, known as God.

These principle teachings play a significant role in the lives of Christian and Jewish adherents, as they ignite the spark that calls individuals to attain inner peace.

And as such, it is through the essences of developing inner peace as an individual, in which ultimately influences the notion of world peace as a whole by virtue of mankind.

In Christianity, peace is immortalized through the teachings of Jesus Christ, the Old Testament and the New Testament. Peace is more than merely an absence of violence and conflict. Inner peace is attained through being at peace with God; to maintain it the person must retain a continual relationship with God.

The act of penance is crucial in attaining a sense of peace as it absolves the person from all sin and guilt – in (2 Corinthians 13:11 NIV), Jesus explains that you should “aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, and live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. ” Adherents are called to act as people who actively seek reconciliation over retaliation. The crucifixion of Jesus Christ is the ultimate symbol of this belief – forgiveness is also carried out by Jesus “forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. One of the principal teachings of peace is that the Peace of God is beyond the peace of this world – in (John 16:33 NIV), Jesus asserts that ultimate peace comes in faith in the lord God “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. ” In (Mathew 5:9 NIV), it is expressed that those who advocate peace will be able to ultimately call themselves the sons of God.

The beatitudes illustrate the many virtues that man will be rewarded for having; Jesus states that the peacemakers will be called to be sons of God “blessed are those who are peacemakers as they will be called the sons of God. ” Jesus Christ was the apotheosis of peace, he taught that loving your enemy and praying for those that persecute you “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew 5:44 NIV) as well as turning the other cheek, “But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person.

If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. This teaching reflects the Christian belief in fairness amongst all people; everyone is the same in the eyes of the Lord, even if they are enemies and as such, it is fundamental that mankind live their lives in accordance to integrity and fidelity just as Jesus Christ did. The teachings of Christ impact heavily on the lives of Christians, they follow in the footsteps of Jesus so that they too can live a tranquil and peaceful life. In (Matthew 6:6 NIV), Jesus explains the merits of praying to the lord God and the reward of inner peace, “But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret: and your father who sees in secret will reward you. ” It is through this conversation with God that Christians pursue peace in their lives. Prayer can either be private or communal, spontaneous prayer is one way that charismatic communities can come closer to God.

The act of prayer allows believers to have a personal conversation with God; it alleviates stress attributed to the monotony of everyday life. Besides prayer, meditation is another way of attaining inner peace, it is an ancient practice within the Christian tradition, which has undertaken a recent revival, a global group that reaffirms the concept of praying and meditating for inner peace is Taize. Not as popular as prayer and meditation, Lectio Divina, generally known as bible studies is a way for Christians to feel connected to God and to finally attain inner peace.

The studying of the sacred scriptures on a day to day basis and reflecting on prayers also maintain a continual connection with God. It is vital to maintain equilibrium between prayer and service, whereby an individual fathoms the notion ‘ora et labora’, in order to equally partake in both prayer, and the concept of action whereby ora develops inner peace, which is mirrored through the actions taken from this inner peace to promote world peace through labora, and as such it is the steps that a Christian individual takes in order to do good deeds in the name of Jesus Christ.

Judaism is unequivocal in regards to guiding the individual towards achieving inner peace, affirming repeatedly that it is only attained through obedience to God.

Such a view is existent ithin the Tenakh, whereby it states “The fruit of righteousness will be peace… the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever. My people will live in peaceful dwelling places” (Isaiah 32:18 NIV). Thus, faithful observance of the necessary mitzvot is positively required in order for the individual to enjoy God’s peace. Judaism places great emphasis on the notion that without inner peace a person is torn; without communal peace people are isolated; without global peace, the world is fractured and shalom remains an unrealized ideal, whereby Jewish life is a struggle to cleave to the commandments of the halahcah.

A core commandment of the halahcah is to fulfill deeds of loving kindness, in which is derived from the development of inner peace within the individual, and as such, Jews work towards a personal peace through living out their faith in which is mirrored through the daily recitement of the Shemma – “Here O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might” (Deuteronomy 6:4-9 NIV).

And it is by virtue of this, in which the Jewish individual adheres to the demands of the Lord our God, by way of partaking in the constant attempt to ‘repair the world’. The Tikkun Olam encompasses both service to society by helping those in need and service to the divine by liberating the spark within. The essence of the divine spark, known as our conscience, lies hidden beneath the layers of our egoistic self-centeredness.

This is achieved by pursuing spiritual inner work to strengthen our soul and conscience without shattering, willingness to act on what we know to be right, unwillingness to act in harmful or grasping ways, and capability to notice the quiet presence of conscience beneath the din of our chattering minds and reactive emotions, in which ultimately enlightens an individual to live life based on Jewish morals and values, in order to sustain inner peace in which eventually fabricates itself to promoting world peace, as an act of repairing the world.

As such, the notion of repairing the world intertwines with the fundamental belief that world peace will be achieved when every Jewish individual returns back to the ‘chosen land’ of Israel, and that peace will be an ever living fundamental condition to mankind when; “The wolf will sit with the Lamb, the leopard will lie with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together, and a little child will lead them” (Isaiah 11:6 NIV).

Overall, the principle teachings of peace in Christian and Jewish religious expression substantially impact on the lives of adherents, especially in relation to achieving inner peace as inner peace lies at the quintessence of Judaism and Christianity. The principle beliefs in Christianity are of compassion, kindness and love as a means of attaining inner peace, whereby Judaism follows similar principles, which are based upon the notion of repairing the world and living Jewish life in accordance to the halahcah through it’s sacred texts.

Through prayer to the lord God, Christians and Jews move closer to achieving inner peace, however, it is only through unmovable faith in God that inner peace can truly be achieved for the individual. However, it is vital for both religious expressions to maintain the equilibrium between prayer and the act of service or work in order to mould the notion of peace to the world as an ongoing fundamental human condition, ultimately allowing mankind to live in such utopic nature, diminishing the notions of sin and suffering within the world we live in today.

Religion is a hard concept to comprehend. It is showing us a different side to look at our life. Instead of having hard facts that can be physically proven, religion shows us to take a leap of faith and believe the impossible. In my faith I am taught that we are created by a higher being; God.

That He is omnipotent and he loves all human beings, even if we do not believe in him and follow him.

That he sent his only son, to die on the cross for all of us. Other religions may say the opposite: that there is more than one god and that Jesus was not the messiah. Edward and people with similar beliefs say, “Religions are man-made world-views that help those in charge to control the masses. They are completely and utterly useless.

Man has a lust for power and because religious leaders have so much power over so many people, others assume that religion is being used to gain power . In today’s world there are too many religions to count. “There are as many ‘religions’ as there are believers since each person has a different understanding of what their religion is.”: as Nancy M has put it. Nancy brings up a great point by saying this. People might think they have the same views on religion but no one really does. That is one of the points of this documentary: to show different views on what they believe in. Free will gives us the power to choose our own paths, whether it is in speech or in religion. The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy says, “Free will is to say that the agent has the capacity to choose his or her course of action.” We have the choice to believe in God or not to believe in God. That is the beauty of free will, that our decisions are our own.

The biggest confrontation in religion is: which religion is right? People who have a strong faith in what they believe in, and will say that their religion is the true religion. I am one who believes that my religion is the correct. But like Nancy says; I have created my own religion. I discovered my own belief system, by challenging other religions and figuring out what others have to say about their own beliefs.

Brother Jed Smock is one who challenges our faith, by going to college campuses and spreading his beliefs onto others. What he talks about at the colleges, causes the students to question and challenge Brother Jed’s beliefs. While asking these questions, the students have to also look at their own beliefs and may question them as well. To truly grasp our religion we need to ask questions and find answers. One of the best ways to do this is to challenge others and to break down the answer they have provided. It strengthens us and takes our beliefs to a whole new level.

Believing in something is a way of life. Everyone has some kind of belief system. We can believe that there is a God or believe that there is no God. This is the same as an opinion: we all have opinions on everything no matter what. If no one had an opinion then there would not be discussions or arguments.(Without this progress could not be made) Whether or not we belive in a religion or science or even both, there is a reason why we do. It is a way to explain things we cannot explain (it is a way to ease our minds from fear of the unknown and to explain away the unexplainable). For example, where we go after we die or if something miraculous (Or tragic) happens in our life. We cannot explain these events, and therefore we look for answers (in a higher power, whether that power is religion or science) because as humans we do not like Uncertainty.

It is a way to avoid the confrontation, of questioning a belief system by putting life solely in the hands of a higher power. It is mainly used as a way to explain away tragedy and an attempt to console us in a time of grief. When something unexplainable happens, people (do not ) like to question why, they would rather move on with their life and accept what they believe to be inevitable. In my opinion I believe that I will make my own future and it is always changing and nothing is set until it happens. Nothing can determine our future except ourselves.

Het: Hello everybody. Well Uttarayan is celebrated in many parts of the country and also in some other parts of the world with great zeal and enthusiasm. It is a harvest festival which is basically celebrated in the Hindu communities. In Indian, the states of Bihar, Bengal, Punjab, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu celebrate the festival with great fervor and gusto. Now I will tell Harsh to share some of information that he has.

Harsh: U know Het, In Tamil Nadu the festival is known as Pongal, in Assam as Bhogali Bihu, in Punjab, as Lohiri, in Gujarat and Rajasthan, as Uttararayan. In Uttar Pradesh it is celebrated as Khichdi or Donation festival. In Bihar it is known as Til Sankranti or Khichdi festival. Outside India, the festival is given due importance in the countries like Nepal where it is celebrated as Maghe Sakrati or Maghi, in Thailand where it is named as Songkran and in Myanmar where it is called Thingyan.

Shivya: Wow I thought Uttarayan is celebrated only in Gujarat. But I can bet it must not be celebrated anywhere like in Gujarat with the sky becoming so colourful. Devayani what information you have to share with us.

Devayani: Well you know the way Makar Sankranti is celebrated in every state of India with faith and joy, it can be guessed that the festival has some religious beliefs. This festival is mentioned in many of our religious text, which enlighten about the festival’s religious significance.

The religious scripture, “Gita” which is known as the voice of Lord Krishna, illustrates that six months of Uttarayan is the day time of deity. And, the 6 months of Dakhshinayan is the night for Gods. It is believed that person who scarifies his body in Uttarayan get a position in ‘Krishna Lok’. That person gets liberation, whereas, the one who dies in Dakhshinayan, has to be reborn.

In the era of Mahabharata, Bhishma Pithama had a blessing of wish death. Although lying on the bed of arrows, he did not sacrifice his life in the Dakhsinayan, and waited for the Sun to go in Uttarayan. It is believed that on the day of Makar Sankranti, when sun entered in the Uttarayan, Bhishma Pithama, discarded his body.

Scientifically, this day the sun begins its northward journey and enters the sign of Makar (the Capricorn) from the Tropic of Cancer. It is like the movement of sun from Dakshinayana (south) to Uttarayana (north) hemisphere. It is the one of the few chosen Indian Hindu festivals which has a fixed date. This day falls on the 14th of January every year according to the Hindu Solar Calendar. After doing some research on the religions Islam and Judaism, I’ve found many links between the two as well as many differences and similarities.

Some major similarities are: Both religions are monotheistic, meaning belief in one only true God. Both religions believe in a distinct afterlife being either good or bad depending on how a person has led their life according to their religion. Judaism and Islam both have writings with describings of how one should live as a part of either religion (Qur’an and the Torah).

There are rules regarding eating restrictions such as only being able to consume Halal (in the name of Allah) produced goods in Islam and eating Kosher meat in Judaism. Both religions have special holidays to celebrate various historical and spiritual events of their beliefs. Both religions have special headwear – a Jewish yarmulke worn by men during prayer and a hijab worn by Islamic women conforming to a standard of modesty.

Some major differences are: Judaism is over one millenium older than Islam.

Islam is a far more strict belief with many more demands and rules compared to Judaism. Judaism has a sabbath – day of rest while Islam believes that Allah – God does not need rest.

Similarities include belief in one God, preserving the faith through prophets, scriptures and observance of religious laws through expression of faith or submission. The major difference is that while Islam acknowledges that the Old Testament once was Allah’s true revelation, they believe it was altered by the Jews to reflect Jewish views and opinions. The Jews are seen by Muslims as once having true revelation and submitting to Allah, but now being misled, unbelieving and no longer in submission.

Both Judaism and Islam have changed over time. Judaism began with Abraham essentially promising to only worship the one true God in which God pledged to uphold a special relationship with Abraham’s descendants. Over time, God introduced the law to the people of Israel of which to observe their faith in him as the one and only God, but by the time of Jesus, the law had merely become a stone cold tradition and faith of something of the past.

Islam, too, has changed over time though there are some uncertainties of the details. Islam began with Allah’s first revelation to Muhammad. It was mainly a warning to the Arabs who were practicing polygamy and worshipping false gods to turn to the one and only true Allah.

Yet, there is a strong probability that Muhammad was simply influenced by Christian and Jewish traders coming through his city. The idea is that he wasn’t thoroughly impressed by their behavior, so he sought his own version of a monotheistic religion by adding commands from Allah regarding issues in life. Later on, people realized that the Qur’an didn’t fully cover how to be a muslim in everyday life. The Hadith was created. The Hadith is a saying or a sort of guidance sought to relate to how Muhammad or his close friends would have decided on a particular issue. These have some authority within Islam today.

Believers of Judaism more or less see Islam as an attempted copy and distortion of Jewish monotheism because Islam dismisses the Jewish revelation in scripture and therefore seeks a path other than the one described in Jewish scripture. Also, Islam rejects Jews as God’s chosen people, which goes against the basic Jewish belief.

The subject at hand could be, and has been, argued for an eternity. It is clear there are vast similarities, likewise differences between Judaism and Islam. Personally, I do not believe in any religion, though they are quite interesting to study.

The word zoo is a fairly broad term. Zoos are most commonly thought of as an attraction rather than a means for education. More importantly, they are rarely associated with the survival of the human race. While zoos are a form of entertainment for the public and a taxable industry for the government; most of them do in fact research the animals they have in their captivity. This research can be beneficial and life saving for humans and if it were not for this testing, we would not have many key vaccines that we have today.

For the sake of this paper the term zoo can be applied to all animals in captivity.

This includes those for entertainment, medical testing, and rehabilitation/protection. Tom Reagan wrote on if zoos are morally defensible, but included all of the previously listed forms of captivity under the title of “zoo”. He argues that zoos are immoral because of rights based principles; however, he fails to see the implications of assuming that animals have equal rights to humans.

Although his conclusion is false, it is morally wrong and unnecessary to keep an animal in captivity purely for public amusement and financial gain. Reagan presents two views in proving the immorality of zoos.

First is the utilitarian standpoint which claims that the suffering of animals being in captivity far outweighs the suffering of humans had the animals not been in captivity. The second view is the rights based principle, which is that animals have rights and should not be in captivity. He sides with the latter of the two theories, deciding that the utilitarian view fails to asses all of the components of human suffering without zoos. He claims that animals morally have rights to freedom and respect thus making it immoral for humans to take this away from them.

The real hitch in his theory though, is how he proposes the moral rights of animals. He claims that they have rights because of their awareness to their existence and therefore knowledge of suffering and pleasure. However, although animals are aware, they are not conscious of cause and effect. They don’t see the morality behind suffering, they just instinctually avoid it. To ascertain that they have the same rationalization powers as humans do on deciding if their actions are causing pleasure or pain, is to give their awareness too much credit.

A good paper to prove this point, is Carl Cohen’s Do Animals Have Rights? In it he responds to Regan’s theory that animals have rights. Cohen decides that Regan’s biggest error is associating two different versions of the broadly used term “inherent value” to formulate his conclusion. Regan claims that because animals have inherent value they are moral agents and should not be used in a fashion that makes them less important than humans. However, Cohen says that just because they have inherent value it does not mean they are moral beings.

Surely because they feel pain it is immoral to cause them to suffer needlessly but this does not give them the same rights as humans. Animals live in an amoral world without respect or knowledge of other living thing’s rights. Since they are unaware of morals and rights, it seems absurd to hold them to the same moral standard as humans. It would appear then that when deciding on the moral legitimacy of zoos, it would be correct to separate human rights from the natural laws that animals live by. The natural world is based on survival.

Animals kill other animals to survive and out of instinct. House cats torture their prey before killing it, and bears eat their prey alive. Animals act without the knowledge of other living beings having a right to life because it is not a matter of rationalization for them. They do not see the suffering of other animals as a moral issue because they are incapable of grasping such a concept. Because we as humans do have the ability to rationalize we also have the responsibility to avoid causing harm and suffering to other living things.

However, humans need to survive too, and if it means keeping animals for medical testing then this should not be looked at any differently than a wolf attacking a human so as to not starve. Animals already use other animals as tools for survival; and if this is the case as it is in medical testing, then captivity should be allowed. Same goes for animal rehabilitation and protection from extinction. Although wildlife preserves are more ideal for most animals in this case, even a small enclosure zoo could be in that particular animal’s best interest concerning its health.

Small enclosures and preserves can also give humans lots on insight into the daily routines of animals so as to better protect them from extinction. What is inhumane and immoral however, is using zoos for monetary gain and personal entertainment. Through evolution some animals have become accustomed to human interaction and unnatural surroundings. Those that are not, however, should not be put in captivity for no reason. That’s why we have house pets.

It is necessary to establish rapport, amity, and concordance among the various religions in Asia and the world more specifically among Muslims and Christians in the Philippines in order to better understand their systematic beliefs, values, and behavior, acquired by people as a member of their society.

These patterns are systematic because their manifestations are regular in occurrence and expression: they are shared by member of a group. It is also necessary to build friendship and connection among diverse religions in Asia and the world to build a better society and to have peace in every nation. In such a society it is very important to have harmony and respect amongst the different religions. We must distinguish between belief and respect.

Belief refers to total faith, which you must have in your own religion. At the same time you should have respect for all other religions. This tradition of believing in one’s own religion and having respect for others. In every religion, there are transcendent things that are beyond the grasp of our mind and speech. For example, the concept of God in Christianity and Islam and that of wisdom truth body in Buddhism are metaphysical, which is not possible for an ordinary person like us to realize. This is a common difficulty faced by every religion.

Usually, it is very important to distinguish between “belief in one religion” and “belief in many religions”. Religion, after all, is a powerful constituent of cultural norms and values, and because it addresses the most profound existential issues of human life (e.g., freedom and inevitability, fear and faith, security and insecurity, right and wrong, sacred and profane), religion is deeply implicated in individual and social conceptions of peace. To transform the conflicts besetting the world today, we need to uncover the conceptions of peace within our diverse religious and cultural traditions, while seeking the common ground among them. Traditionally many people focus on how wars and conflicts are seemingly undertaken for religious reasons, or at least undertaken in the name of religion.

A significant problem with organized religion and belief, as this relates to peace and conflict, is individuals and groups often confuse the map (their socially-learned version of reality or culture or religion) with the territory (or ultimate reality). Thus people believe that their personal or subjective version of reality or religion is valid, while other views are invalid. Instead it can be argued that the many maps are different, but possibly equally valid interpretations and attempts to understand the same underlying reality or territory. Asian religions can transcend divisiveness by standing side by side with other religions, without losing their very own unique creeds or belief-systems through banding together in interfaith dialogue, cooperation, and religious peacebuilding.

The first major dialogue was the Parliament of the World’s Religions at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, which remains notable even today both in affirming “universal values” and recognition of the diversity of practices among different cultures. The 20th century has been especially fruitful in use of interfaith dialogue as a means of solving ethnic, political, or even religious conflict, with Christian–Jewish reconciliation representing a complete reverse in the attitudes of many Christian communities towards Jews.

Christians and Muslims can utilize their respective religions for peace and harmony through sharing the main morals and conducts that are for the benefit of humanity and nature. They believe in the same basic morals that are important for people to follow in order to live in peace, harmony, and love in communities with different faiths and cultures. And to through tolerance, respect and cooperation with respect in each other’s religions.

2.) Explain why Islam is considered the “most misunderstood religion”. What are some historical, sociological and cultural reasons that paved the way for a misunderstanding of the true nature of Islam among non-Muslims and even among Muslims? Islam means “submission to the will of God in all areas of one’s life”. Muslim means, “One who submits to God’s will”.

These Arabic words are actually non-sectarian terms if we look at the context of these words in the Qur’an. Can we use the term “Muslim” in its universal implication to include all believers in One God? Can we use the term “Muslim” to any person (irrespective of religions) who strives sincerely to submit to the will of God in his life? [Hint: Consider the Islamic doctrine of Risalah (Progressive Revelation) and the Islamic view of the universality of God’s calling of prophethood] (30 points).

Islam is considered the “most misunderstood religion” because most of the time it is considered as a violent religion and is likely “to encourage violence among believers”. And there is also some outright falsehood for example, “God sent prophets to every nation for their guidance.” But, According to the “Doctrine of Progressive Revelation”, Islam is very universal since it admits that Allah sent prophets to everyone whereas Jews believe that prophets only come from them because they are the “chosen people of God.” Another example, “One of the missions of the Prophet of Islam was to bring peace and unity to the feuding tribes, the Jahiliah or the ignorant Arabs of the pre-Islamic days. This he succeeded in doing as narrated in several verses of the Qur-an”.

The message of Allah were brought by one Prophet and recorded in one holy Qur-an. There is no other Qur-an, or versions or it, or editions which carry different texts. The hold Qur-an is not in the form of Gospels by Muslim saints or ‘ulama’. The holy Qur-an is just the record of the messages of Allah in the Arabic of the period. Translations of the Qur-an may be different in minor ways, but they are not accepted as the holy Qur-an. Only that in the original Arabic is accepted. So there can be no differing text or Gospels or versions which can result in differences in the messages or teachings of Islam. Yet, clearly there are differences, serious differences, so serious that Muslims are divided sometimes into warring sects. One of the reasons that paved the way of misunderstanding the true nature of Islam among non-Muslims and even Muslims are the “media”.

Media is the greatest factor on how people view their surroundings. Somehow, criticizing the Islam brings them more readers/viewers. We tend to judge and generalize things without knowing the exact story behind those issues. Infact, the worl Islam means peace, purity, submission and obedience. In the religious sense, Islam means submission to the will of God and obedience to His law. Yes, we can use the term “Muslim” in its universal implication to include all believers in One God, as well as, to any person (irrespective of religions) who strives sincerely to submit to the will of God in his life because “Muslim” believe that God is eternal, transcendent, absolutely one (the doctrine of tawhid, or strict or simple monotheism), and incomparable; that he is self-sustaining, who begets not nor was begotten.

Write a “reflective synthesizing essay” that answers the following questions: In the future prospect, will the Asian religions move from rhetoric unity and act as one to solve the common problems affecting humanity? In the future, the Asian religions will move from rhetoric unity and act as one to solve the common problems affecting humanity to have a better nation, to have a respect on one another, to fix the unjust and destructive situations. There is no need to abandon our cherished worldview and values in the name of development but rather preserve it and continue following those values to build a progressive and advance nation. With their differing Asian worldviews and religions they can create different ideas and new innovations but with respect with one another’s point of view, and to accept what other countries have made, to promote nationalism among Asians and global cooperation among countries in the world.

4.) Explain what made Japanese civilization unique in its approach to establishing a pro-active Asian civilization capable of having positive ethical patterns as fountainhead of their development? Explain why it is not just enough to simply support one’s parents for one to be called “filial”; what are therefore the other requirements to be able to truly say that one has completely conducted oneself as “filial son/daughter” to one’s parents? It is not just enough to simply support one’s parents for one to be called “filial” because we owe our parents a lot- because of them we able to eat three meals a day, sometimes even more. They give us clothes and sometimes the things that are beyond our needs. They send us to school. But more than simply supporting us in the most basic sense of supporting, our parents loves us. It now becomes something different because when we love them back, we do not do so out of indebtedness. We give our love freely, and not as a payment with a certain interest. Most of all, because of this special filial relationship with them that we had since birth, we also respect and obey them. We not only support our parents, but serve them.

The Indian “caste system” made it stuck into conservatism. The positive roles that the caste-system plays in Indian civilization, provides a sense of community and belongingness. And the two main strands of thought: Divine will- the belief that a hierarchical social structure is part of the divine intention for natural order, and the Purity- the need to emphasize the importance of ritual purity and impurity. But there is also a negative aspect of caste-system to Indian civilization. For example, marrying someone from a different caste, whilst not officially outlawed, is generally discouraged. They only lived, ate, and worked within their group. This was based on the idea that people are different and should have different roles. And a person born into one caste never changed castes and very seldom mixed with members of other castes. Castes were unchanging groups but people from the lowest caste were told that they have to serve the other castes so that they can be reborn into a higher caste in their next life.
