how can we expect employees to know how to react to ethical dilemmas at work?

Question 1
The organization that I am currently apart of is at risk for ethical dilemmas because as a teacher you are not just on the job at the job. You are a public figure that people and especially children look up to and respect. There have been many situations of teachers out partying with parents, getting drunk because they are stressed out from the politics of the job and being videotaped and some have lost their jobs. In addition there are teachers who may be dealing with the pressure of having to make sure children do well in class in order to keep their jobs or get a raise that have falsified test results and etc. Then you have teacher being asked to give children test on material that was never even taught. This is due to the breakdown in the education system on so many levels. The no child left behind may have a child in the 4th grade reading on a 1st grade reading level. There is no way that the teacher can teach at the 4th grade level with an over packed classroom and still try to bring that child up to grade level. Due to education becoming more political than it is about the students and their well-being, many teachers and administrators have been sucked in and have gone against the code of conduct and ethics of the education system. When things like this happen the school is affected, the children, the administration, the families and the stakeholders. According to Gonzalez-Padron, (2015), “If a company stakeholder could experience harm or danger, then the situation becomes an ethical issue” (Sec. 3.1).
May fields are at risk these days to perform or lose their jobs. This has cause many employees to go to extremes to keep their job. According to Jones (1991), “Ethical issues conflict with an accepted value, principle, or standard, and can arise in any area of an organization, including accounting, customer service, marketing, production, human resources, and beyond. These issues occur when an individual, group, or entity must choose between alternative actions that have the potential to harm others. (pg. 366) This is why entrepreneurship is a vehicle out of that.
Question 2
Ethical dilemmas in the work place are unfortunately more common that we think. One way or another employees find themselves not following their personal and organization’s ethical values without even realizing they are doing it, unethical decisions that in the long run will affect the employee and the organization. Ethical dilemmas could happen due to many reasons. Many times this happens due to lack of communication or lack of strong leaders that can model ethical behaviors on employees. Business ethical issues do not relate solely to isolated misconduct involving a few bad people. Almost two thirds of unethical behavior in the workplace involves repeating or ongoing occurrence (Gonzalez-Padron, 2015). Another reason why employees find themselves making unethical decisions is due to pressure to move ahead, or unreasonable expectations from leaders to employees. Nevertheless, it is also easy to find the employees that can care lees or don’t want to bother with ethical values believing that they will get away with it.
Nowadays leaders need to place themselves strategically among employees. They need to connect with them and build stronger relationships that can allow them to know employees better. Leaders need to analyze if they have achievable goals for employees and how they can support and coach employees. The problem is when leaders fail to walk the talk and have a sense of entitlement to take advantage of the position they hold within the organization.
I have personally worked with leaders that try to reinforce punctuality on employees but they always arrive late, or leaders that give themselves monetary compensations but never recognize the employees work. Also leaders that use their power to hire and help close friends move up within the organization. I am sure we are all familiar with this type of unethical leaders, then how can we expect employees to know how to react to ethical dilemmas at work? When and organization suffer this problem the system needs to be analyzed from top to bottom. I once read that to see how the leader is doing, look at the people. Strong leaders will be able to recognize those employees that don’t care and should know how to remove them from their working environment.

Ethical dilemmas in nursing Informatics

Ethical dilemmas in nursing Informatics.

Module 4 Written Assignment: Ethical Dilemmas in Nursing Informatics Image from TheBlueDiamondGallery uploaded by NYPHOTOGRAPHIC The ethical dilemma that you select for this paper must relate to the use of informatics or technology in healthcare. Ethical dilemmas arise in many areas of healthcare and nursing practice, and technological developments have introduced new concerns. There are many different ways to approach ethical issues in our society, and theoretical frameworks help to provide guiding principles for decision-making. Theories provide the lens through which we might evaluate an ethical issue. McGonigle and Mastrian (2018) outline several different theoretical approaches to healthcare ethics (pp. 83-86). They include: 1. Principlism 2. Causist Approach 3. Virtue Ethics 4. Care Ethics, and 5. Consensus-based Approach For this paper, you will identify an ethical issue (real or potential) related to the use of informatics and analyze it using the ethical model for decision-making, provided in BOX 5-1 (pp. 89-91) of the McGonigle and Mastrian (2018) text. Address each of the following seven areas: • Examine the ethical dilemma (conflicting values exist). • Thoroughly comprehend the possible alternatives available. • Hypothesize ethical arguments, applying one of the five theoretical approaches outlined above. • Investigate, compare, and evaluate the arguments for each alternative. • Choose the alternative you would recommend. • Act on your chosen alternative. • Look at the ethical dilemma and examine the outcomes while reflecting on the ethical decision. Directions • Compose a four to six page paper (exclusive of the title page and reference page). • Address all elements as outlined above, using a Level 1 heading (APA, 2010, p. 62) for each bulleted area. • Support your content with at least two scholarly resources from the nursing or healthcare literature, in addition to the course textbooks. • Use APA format. • Follow all criteria of the Written Assignment Rubric. This activity will be graded using the written assignment rubric. Reference McGonigle, D., & Mastrian, K. G. (2018). Nursing informatics and the foundation of knowledge (4th ed.). Scenario 1: Medical coding in a physician’s practice

Imagine you work in a high-pressure cardiology physician’s office and you are one of two medical coders. Your supervisor is very focused on the greatest reimbursement to satisfy revenue projections for the practice. As a result, you are asked to “up-code” billing. How can the pressure of acquiring the maximum repayment for services lead to manipulating or falsifying documentation?

Scenario 2: Administration of patient medications in the hospital setting

Imagine you are a new graduate nurse working nights on a busy medical unit. You just received a new patient who needs to be admitted to your unit and you just finished medicating a patient with a narcotic injection with a dose greater than ordered. Clearly understanding medication errors may lead to patient injury and even death, explain why a clinician may choose not to report the incident.

Scenario 3: Not hiring a qualified individual because of discrimination

Imagine you are a new human resources director in a nonprofit organization and have been pressured not to hire Middle Eastern candidates by the organization’s CEO. In the United States, discrimination against people based on their ethnicity, race, or cultural orientation is strictly forbidden under federal and state laws. Ethical discrimination may result in the breeding of ill feelings at work, as well as reduced productivity. To eliminate these ramifications, organizations need to put forth increased effort in curbing ethical discrimination in the employment sector. What are some interventions organizations can put in place to prevent discrimination?

Write a 150- to 350-word response for each ethical scenario. Include a title page with your name and your responses.

Format your assignment according to APA guidelines. Include a title page, an introduction, headings, in text citations, a conclusion and a separate reference page.

How does health disparity affect the triage nurse’s decision making?Working in an emergency room gives rise to ethical dilemmas. Due to time restraints and the patient’s cognitive impairment and lack of medical history .

Working in an emergency room gives rise to ethical dilemmas. Due to time restraints and the patient’s cognitive impairment and lack of medical history, complications can and do occur. The nurse has very little time to get detailed patient information. He or she must make a quick assessment and take action based on hospital protocol. The organized chaos of the emergency room presents unique ethical challenge, which is why nurses are required to have knowledge of ethical concepts and principles.
Questions to Consider
To deepen your understanding, you are encouraged to consider the questions below and discuss them with a fellow learner, a work associate, an interested friend, or a member of your professional community.

How does a triage nurse decide which patient gets seen first?
How does health disparity affect the triage nurse’s decision making?
What ethical and moral issues does the triage nurse take into account when making a decision?
What are triage-level designations?

Assessment Instructions
Your supervisor has asked you to do a 15-minute oral presentation at a staff meeting about a recent issue that occurred at another hospital in town. Following an industrial accident, two patients arrived at the emergency room of that hospital at the same time, presenting with very similar inhalation injuries. The hospital received a great deal of negative press due to how the patients were triaged in the ER. Your supervisor would like you to use the specifics of this case to review triage procedures and best practices at your facility. Here are the details:

One is a 32-year-old firefighter, Frank Jeffers, who is presenting with respiratory difficulties that he obtained while evacuating victims of an industrial accident. He is a married homeowner and father of two young boys. He has lived in the community all his life. He has full and comprehensive health insurance through his employer.
The other is Brent Damascus, a 58-year-old man. Brent is presenting with respiratory difficulties with the same intensity as Mr. Jeffers above. He is well known at the hospital emergency room, as he is a frequent visitor with various complaints, including asthma, headaches, and tremors. He is homeless, unemployed, and uninsured. He stays many nights at the YMCA and eats lunch at the soup kitchen. He has lived in the community for over 10 years and has been arrested several times for petty theft.

Preparation
Create a 15-minute presentation (3–4 pages) that examines the moral and ethical issues that occurred when triaging these two patients and the best practices for managing this in the future.
Divide your draft into a number of talking points that you can summarize neatly. Keep in mind that an oral presentation requires slightly different language than an essay. The aim is to communicate your message so keep sentences simple and focus on the key points you want to deliver. Address the following in your presentation:

Explain the health care policies and protocols that are in place that direct triage care in an emergency situation.
Explain how health care disparities impact treatment decisions.
Identify the health care policies that are in place that direct care for uninsured individuals. Is there a difference in how these individuals are triaged?
Describe the moral and ethical challenges nurses can face when following hospital policies and protocols. Is there a conflict when a severely injured person is also uninsured?
Recommend evidence-based strategies that should be applied for managing the care of uninsured and indigent population.

Additional Requirements
Your presentation should meet the following requirements:

Written communication: Written communication should be free of errors that detract from the overall message.
References: Include a reference section with a minimum of three references; a majority of these should be peer-reviewed sources. All resources should have been published within the last 5 years.
APA format: Resources and citations should be formatted according to current APA style and formatting.
Length: 3–4 typed, double-spaced pages, excluding title page and reference page. Use Microsoft Word to complete the assessment.

Ethical dilemmas span all areas of your professional practice from confidentiality and privacy to cultural considerations.

Helping professionals often face difficult decisions in their work that may have ethical ramifications. Ethical dilemmas span all areas of your professional practice from confidentiality and privacy to cultural considerations. For this Assignment, you concentrate on cultural considerations that may pose challenges to ethical practice. (Culture is broadly defined here as the behaviors, traditions, and/or beliefs of any subgroup.) Select one of the two case studies below to use for this assignment. After analyzing the case study, consider how you might address the issues present using your professional practice code of ethics.

Review the case study below before completing the Assignment.

Case Study #1

Nitin and Priya are first-generation Indian-American immigrants, while their 16-year-old son was born and raised in the United States. They were reluctant to engage in treatment, but are doing so at the request of their son, Sujay. In Sujay’s view, his parents are being overly controlling regarding his upcoming choice of college, which is causing increasingly frequent clashes between him and his parents. Sujay wants to attend art school, while his parents want him to attend engineering school. They state that a career in science, religion, law, or medicine is the appropriate path for a person of his caste. Sujay claims that while he wants to please his parents, he feels they are stifling his passion and imposing cultural norms that, to him, are a part of their “world” and not his. You have little knowledge of Indian culture or the caste system and are unsure whether the issue at hand is a matter of controlling parents dealing with a life transition issue or a serious conflict involving social and cultural influences.
