Ethical Profile Paper

Directions:

You are to write an ethical profile paper that recognizes the formative influence of your family, heroes, and personal style on you as an ethical professional. This paper will provide a profile of you in regards to your ethical and professional practice. You will be required to include information on who you are as an ethical professional, how this course has shaped your unique ethical decision-making style, and the areas in which you feel still need further development.

Include the following four sections in your paper:

  1. Ethical Autobiography: First, explain how you think through and determine what is “right” and “wrong” (personally and professionally) in your own daily life. Second, identify four examples of ethical behaviors and explain how your cultural heritage has shaped your values. Third, describe the nature of the four ethical behaviors you see in yourself.
  2. Professional/Ethical Hero: First, identify an ethical “hero,” an individual that has most impressed you and serves as your role model because of their professional/ethical presence (i.e., sensitivity, appropriate boundaries, and respect for privacy, ethical commitment, and ethical courage). Elaborate on his or her ethical characteristics. Discuss how this person can (or does) serve as a role model for others in the helping profession. Second, describe how this “hero” has influenced your value system. Click here to read an article on ethical hero.
  3. Ethical Decision-Making Style: This section will articulate your implicit style in terms of ethical decision making. Although there are specific models that help facilitate ethical decision making, everyone has his or her own unique style. Taking into consideration the ethical decision-making models presented in this course, identify the style that reflects your early and ongoing experiences with moral values and issues that has been influenced and shaped by your parents, relatives, peers, and valued adults in your life, such as a teacher or coach. Use what you have written from your autobiography to supplement this discussion. In summary, explain your implicit ethical decision-making style, including how this course and your cultural heritage have served as influential factors.
  4. Professional and Ethical Development: Ethical development is, for most, a career-long process. In the last section of your paper, please identify at least two areas discussed in this module/course where you feel you would benefit from more development. Lastly, suggest ways in which you can acquire your further development.

Please include information from two or more external scholarly references using APA formatting for all citations.

Your paper should be approximately 6–8 pages in length, be double-spaced, in 12 point, Times New Roman font with normal 1” margins; be written in APA style; and be free of typographical and grammatical errors. It should include a title page with a running head, an abstract, and a reference page.

An argument paper concerning fast food in America

An argument paper concerning fast food in America.

Fast food in America

Essay 1 (500 words) will be an argument paper concerning fast food in America.  You can use Fast Food Nation as a source for your information.  Don’t use other sources in your essay.  For this essay, you do not have to provide MLA documentation.  However, you must not copy from the book; you must put this information into your own words if you are going to use it, or quote it accurately if you are going to use the exact words.  Let us know who said it, and use proper punctuation.  Otherwise, it would be plagiarism.  If you are a little nervous about plagiarism, make sure you review the assigned plagiarism material.

Reread the helpful description of the argument in the Owl, which you can find in the Online Resources section of Blackboard.  Choose one prompt and write a 500-word argument essay.  Here are the prompts for Essay 1:

  1. Fast food companies, such as McDonald’s, Taco Bell, and Burger King, have made children the target of their advertisements for years.  There was a movement some years ago to rein in the aggressive practices of fast food ads, but eventually the movement was defeated and the advertising grew even stronger.  Do you think fast food companies should be allowed to advertise their products directly to children, such as through commercials during cartoon programming?

  1. Some critics of fast food have compared fast food to harmful products, such as cigarettes and alcohol, because more people die from illnesses linked to poor diets than people die from cigarettes and alcohol.  The critics want fast food to be treated the same way with warnings and age limitations.  Do you agree?  (To get the full impact of the fast food diet, I recommend seeing Morgan Spurlock’s “Supersize Me,” a documentary that followed a man on his 30-day McDonald’s diet.)

  1. With fast food companies trying to increase their sales, they have resorted to selling their goods in school systems across the country.  Some school systems have been receptive because they are facing budget woes.  Do you think fast food should be available in schools?

Some important features of Essay 1:

  1. Structure of essay must follow the structure in “The Owl”
  2. Organization of argument must be clear
  3. Writing must be clear and concise
  4. Argument must be more than unsupported opinion.  Make sure you use a good balance of facts, logic, and examples.  You are trying to persuade the rest of the world with this essay.
  5. When using facts, logic, and examples, make sure you do not copy these facts, etc.  You are not required to use MLA documentation for this first essay, but simply copying another’s ideas is considered plagiarism.  Best advice: put the information into your own words, or if you are confident about the rules of quoting, then you can use some quotes.
  6. Grammatical errors must be at a minimum

Things to Avoid

  • Avoid overuse of the word “I.”  It is okay to use I if you have something pertinent to say, but mainly avoid it.  Of course, never use second person (you, your, yours, you’re, you’ll etc.).
  • Avoid using phrases such as:
    1. I think
    2. I believe
    3. I feel
    4. In my opinion

Avoiding these phrases will make your essay more authoritative.  It is not your opinion, your belief, or your thought.  It is the truth, and you can back it up with plenty of evidence.

  • Avoid use of slang or regional phrases.
  • Avoid turning in a paper that has not been thoroughly proofread.  Don’t make me wonder how you got out of English 101.
  • Avoid writing an opinion piece.  Again, you need to include more than just personal opinion.  Your opinion will probably be the basis of your argument, but for crying out loud, please back it up with plenty of support.
  • Avoid making your essay too large.  You don’t want your first essay to be a thousand words long.  You have the research paper to do that.  To corral your ideas, create a brief informal outline that nails down a thesis and two or three supporting topics.  In other words, don’t make this unnecessarily hard on yourself.
  • Avoid avoiding the English Writing Center (Lab).  Go to the writing center if you are having trouble.  The tutors can set you straight in probably less than ten minutes.  They are professionals.  They are located in Building 1, 216W.
  • Avoid turning in a late essay.  This is an easy way to lose points.  I am strict about late papers.  Unless your house burned down or somebody died, you’d better get your paper in on time.

Reflection Paper: Explain what you have learned about the DBA program.

Reflection Paper

Explain what you have learned about the DBA program. Indicate how you can apply this information to be successful in the program. Explain the steps that you feel are necessary to achieve success in the DBA program.

Besides appreciating it as an advanced degree available for individuals in the complex and complicated business field, I have learned a lot about the DBA program. In particular, the program presented me with the rare opportunity to learn that, while an MBA program remains one of the popular degrees for individual managers and leaders in business enterprises, a DBA is a demonstration that, as a doctorate student, I am willing to identify and explore extra gaps in preparation for such leadership positions. I have learned that the DBA program is designed to provide the learner with a variety of advanced tools, especially 21st-century skills. The program gives insight into the various research tools and skills that are useful in the development of strategic plans and reaching informed decisions necessary for problem-solving

The information I have learned about the DBA program would contribute towards my successful completion of the program. First, I would apply the DBA program’s explorative aspect to my studies by demonstrating high levels of focus and commitment. Through the program, I have recognized the need to engage in continual learning because it goes a long way in broadening my understanding of the research project. In other words, I would incorporate the professional development component of the DBA program into my assignments, engagements with fellow students, and instructors. I must admit that DBA coursework and related learning activities are demanding and rigorous. Given these high achievement expectations, I would invest in applying the advanced skills, knowledge, firsthand experience, and techniques I have learned to manage my project.

As stated earlier regarding the relationship between a DBA and an MBA, I would appreciate the DBA program as an opportunity and a major step towards realizing my academic excellence. To achieve this, I would integrate the 21st-century skills I have so far learned into my research project by thinking critically, ensuring perfect verbal presentation of ideas, writing clearly, and engaging in a comprehensive analysis of concepts and findings (Rezun, 2019).  The focus would allow me to resist and avoid multiple distractions, place much emphasis on meaningful activities, and gain new knowledge that is a prerequisite for succeeding in the doctorate program.

Steps to Succeed

Grabowski and Miller (2015) agree that the emerging and current research body has overemphasized the content and management of doctoral programs, overlooking students’ motivations and other determinants of success. Having had a firsthand encounter with a DBA program, I think being successful is determined by a wide range of factors. In this respect, the ability to succeed in the program would be subject to following up to six steps. The first step involves setting clear and realistic expectations because underestimating the program’s scope of demand is a risk factor for failure. The second step is disciplined time management because the program requires adequate time.

The third step constitutes establishing or finding a vibrant or strong support system because the process may be downright frustrating and time-consuming. The fourth involves ensuring compatibility with the advisor. It is important to find and develop a healthy relationship with an advisor who identifies with dignity, trust, and fairness. The fifth and final steps comprise focus and smart and passionate writing and presentation (Rezun, 2019). Ultimately, the professor would expect a doctorate student to commit, avoid distractions, and write clearly to save time and other resources.

Reflection Paper on Global Administration Laws

National administrative laws are variant from one country to another. However, some elements are discernible; this is especially with respect to accountability and transparency in decision making, such as in requirements of open procedures, consultation, and notice. Also, they consolidate basic principles of rationality and fairness, as well as mechanisms of review as characteristic of judicial nature. Based on the above similarities from one country administrative law to another, there is a similarity in their function ability within global administrative structures, as seen below.[1]

Kingsbury, Krisch, Stewart, and Weiner, espouses on the emergence of administrative laws in various areas of global governance.[2] Some of the examples in which there has been an application of administrative laws in global governance are as seen in the United Nation’s response to hesitant engagement of domestic or national courts in the review of sanctions as posed in the Security Council. Also, the postulates of administrative laws have been applied in various procedures as implemented by various bodies such as the OECD or the Basle Committee.[3] Similarly, administrative laws have been utilized in the assessment of domestic administrative decisions and procedures by international panels such as in the context of WTO, the World Trade Organization.

Nevertheless, the emergence of the above patterns whilst not yet coherent, some principles and mechanisms as discussed above operate in some areas only, and not in others, as a result explaining for their wide divergence. However, there is a widespread commitment to both transparency, reasoned decision, review, and transparency in global governance in relation to principles that protect crucial information, negotiating efficiency, as well as commercial confidentiality. Mutual learning and exchanges amongst scholars and practitioners in various fields are trying to compound these administrative laws towards a global administrative law.

Thus, from the above, global administrative laws can be thought of as espouses encompassing practices, principles, and legal mechanisms that support the social understanding that promote and affect accountability in of global administrative bodies by ensuring that they meet consultative, legal, rational, participative, and transparent standards as alluded by national administrative laws.[4] These general practices dictate how global administrative bodies, including national governmental agencies, informal inter-governmental networks, intergovernmental institutions, hybrid private entities, and national government act in relation to pursuing these global norms.[5] Hence, general principles are the baselines through which global administrative laws operate with.

Examples of international bodies involved in global governance are the U.N security, the World Bank, and the forest stewardship council. In the pursuit of global governance, the bodies are pursuant to the general principles such as rationality, pursuance of fairness and transparency. This can be discerned in their functions which are:

  • The United Nations Security Council – regulation of the movement of money, food, and arms in areas that have been sanctioned, as well as listing individuals who have been suspected in engaging in terrorist activities.
  • The World Bank – supervising developing countries in the implementation and adoption of detailed external standards for matters such as the structure of insurance markets.
  • The Forest Stewardship Council’s development of criteria utilized in sustainable use of forests.[6]

Policy Analysis II Paper

Policy Analysis II Paper

There have been a lot of concerns on the number of illegal aliens entering the United States and the impact they bring to the continent. These illegal aliens have not entered United States without the government knowing but have also desecrated the United States law and even its municipalities. At the local and state levels, arresting, sentencing, prosecuting, and supervising these illegal aliens termed to be criminals is a big problem (Clark & Anderson, 2000). Six states have filed suits that forced the federal government to reimburse them for the criminal justice costs connected with these illegal aliens. They have stated that it is the responsibility of the federal government to keep illegal aliens out of the country and expelling those who are in the country.

Policy Analysis II Paper

This essay shows the characteristics of these illegal aliens in the criminal justice system at state, local and federal levels. The analysis done at the federal level is based on the data from the United States Sentencing Commission that contains info on the criminal defendants who have been sentenced according to the 1984 Sentencing Reform Act and Pretrial Services Act Information System that contains info of charged defendants having federal offences (Clark & Anderson, 2000). The numbers of the illegal aliens that are in the federal criminal justice have shot up sharply. This is because the border enforcement was increased, increase in inhabitant illegal alien population and better identification methods used for the illegal aliens.

Other different factors may also play a role in the numbers of increased illegal aliens in the federal criminal justice. In determining what leads to the changes in criminal activities, Pretrial Services Act Information System and United States Sentencing Commission data are limited. After the introduction of Operations Hold the Line and Gatekeeper, the population of these illegal aliens’ defendants that were accused and convicted of crossing the border illegally increased. Even though the convictions for these offenses increased in other different districts, not the two districts that were the homes of the initiatives. Missing any details on the law enforcement initiatives in the data sets associated with every arrest, conclusions on the links between arrests and enforcements become suggestive. The ability in tracking the level of changes in criminal activities on the illegal aliens will be enhanced if increased data on the aliens is collected.

The Cook County analysis showed that the enormous majority number of illegal aliens offenders in New York, California, Illinois and Florida were people who entered with no knowledge or permission issued form the government of United States (Clark & Anderson, 2000). Many illegal aliens that have apprehended themselves at the local level are long term immigrants.

In conclusion, by increasing the prosecutions and convictions of these illegal aliens, numbers and estimated costs used in supervising and incarcerating defendants who were convicted in the federal courts were affected. Incase the efforts of border interdiction reduce attempts in illegal entries by these aliens; the negative effect on the federal criminal justice system may be o short basis. For the criminal activities among the illegal aliens to reduce, the number of EWIs is supposed to be reduced. By reducing the population of the illegal aliens coming to the United States may have emotional impact on crime rates beyond the United States Mexican border.

Position Paper On Academic Freedom In A Physical Therapy Program

Position Paper On Academic Freedom In A Physical Therapy Program

Physical therapy programs aim to ensure that people become professional and competent as they pursue this career path. The program focuses on public engagement, service, teaching, and ensuring that research on health care is advanced. Furthermore, students, alumni, staff and faculty should at all times be engaged in activities that culminate in citizenship, integrity and leadership. This means that society is assured of obtaining the services of therapists who are extremely competent. Academic freedom is achieved when students are involved in the physical therapy program. There are many values, which are leant, and this reflects upon how they relate with other practitioners. The program focuses on communication that is open, honest and truthful. Moreover, the well being and development of students is acquired. This is due to debate and academic freedom that students are entitled to (American Physical Therapy Association, 2011).

Position Paper On Academic Freedom In A Physical Therapy Program

There are many people who require the help of qualified therapists such as children with birth defects, or even elderly people with limb and joint problems. The latter are in need of specialized services in order to be on the right path to recovery. Therapists help them to reduce their pain, improve mobility, and restore function among other things. There has to be an existing relationship between health care providers and physical therapists in order for patients to recover fully. Provision of crutches, prosthetics devices, using gait training, ultra sound and electrical simulation are some treatments patients are subjected (Basson, 2010).

Physical therapy programs need to be flexible as well as allow for students to specialize in what interests them. Students should be able to specialize in pediatrics, sports, neurological, wellness, orthopedics, and cardiopulmonary. This means that there are various electives that students can choose from, depending on their preferences and career path. Also, renowned experts in the field of physical therapy should always be available to mentor the students. Moreover, the students should be offered help while carrying out their projects, specialty clinical and choosing advanced electives (Basson, 2010).

It is known that most students who choose to major in physical therapy programs have limited choices. In turn, they are denied their academic freedom while undertaking their studies. For example, students should have athletic training and exercise physiology choices. They will be able to combine the mentioned majors with physical therapy in order to make themselves extremely marketable (Inverarity &Grossman, 2007). The education attained from physical therapy programs should be complemented with sport medicine or human performance training. Students should carry out their coursework in other settings apart from the usual classroom. In becoming better professionals, clinical experience is needed and should take place in various states. Many people and organizations are now aware of the fact that they need the services of physical therapists. Workers in organizations should be aware of the precautions they need to take, so as to have safe working habits. The latter has to attend specialized training programs that are conducted by physical therapists. In conclusion, a physical therapy program should ensure that its students achieve academic freedom. The students should undertake relevant courses that will make them succeed in their career also, become marketable.
