Middle East in Turmoil:Explain whether you believe that democracy has worked in Iraq and Afghanistan. Provide support for your response..
Middle East in Turmoil
In the wake of the Arab Spring and its aftermath — the unrest in the Middle East and regions around it — there are a number of critical developments to watch and discuss.
· Explain whether you believe that democracy has worked in Iraq and Afghanistan. Provide support for your response.
· Discuss the progress Iran is making in their attempt to implement a democratic election process. Next, speculate on two (2) challenges you believe Iran will face in accomplishing this task. Justify your response
When completing your essay, you must provide in-text citations for any work that is directly quoted or paraphrased. However, you do not need to put the direct citation next to each piece of information that you include in your chart. A bibliographic citations on your bibliography will suffice. When writing your essay, respond to the prompt thoroughly, and completely.
Your response should be your own thoughts and analysis. Citations may be formatted in MLA as long as they are consistent throughout. Research and resources should be incorporated with scholarly application. I.e. used as examples or evidence to support your analysis. Make sure to use complete sentences, and proper grammar. Your response to the prompt should focus on analyzing the information you gather and use to complete the constitutional chart through application. Incorporate the information you gathered by using it to provide examples and support for your response to the prompt.
Your analysis and essay must be at least 2 pages, in length. This does not include the bibliography. The bibliography should be incorporated, on a separate page.
My expectations of a complete assignment are that information is organized clearly and in detail with specific examples. Quality is preferred to quantity.

Thinking about federalism and the how power is distributed between multiple levels of government, including the federal and state level, identify current federal and Texas laws that regulate elections, such as those that provide for determining electoral processes, eligibility to participate in an election, selection methods, winning requirements, candidate qualifications, determining when and where election is held. Discuss inconsistencies and provide some possible examples to explain the potential effects these could have on electoral outcomes, of who is deemed winner, and ultimately achieving democratic representation of the appropriate people (constituents) who will be electorally linked and impacted by the winner of a political office.
In your own opinion, is re-redistricting, before the decennial census, a crime, based on statutory and constitutional law? Or, given the nature and number of state level elections, across a wide geography made up of an extremely demographically heterogeneous population, make it democratically necessary that re-mapping between census’s be a reserved power of the states, in order to maximize representative democracy. How could the remapping of Texas be applied to example and explain the state’s Don’t Mess With Texas, age old attitude, and individualistic political culture.
How could you defend an argument that re-redistricting was not illegal, and how could you defend the argument that re-redistricting violated the Voting Rights Act. Despite, the Texas remapping controversy, should the federal judicial system be involved, in what Justice Felix Frankfurter called the “political thicket” of partisan redistricting? Especially, since the power to redistrict is a power reserved to for the state, and its people. If political gerrymandering is a problem, should its resolve be left to the voters, state by state, and jurisdiction by jurisdiction, or to the federal government (i.e. oversight, regulation, intervention, law…what do you think).
Determine whether or not you believe social controls played a significant role in Donald Sterling’s loss of ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers. Provide a rationale to support your position..
Donald Sterling
Donald Sterling, an American businessman and attorney, was the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, a professional basketball franchise of the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1981 to 2014. In April 2014, Sterling was banned for life from the NBA after private recordings of him making racist comments were made public. In this case study, you will investigate the manner in which social controls may have helped or hurt Sterling in his fight to maintain ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers.
Write a three to five (3-5) page paper in which you:
Determine whether or not you believe social controls played a significant role in Donald Sterling’s loss of ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers. Provide a rationale to support your position.
Debate whether you believe that the social norms for men of Sterling’s age support the use of derogatory language when discussing a member of another race. Next, support or criticize whether the social norms of men Sterling’s age are reasonable in a very “politically correct” society. Provide support for your response.
Argue for or against the theory that an “informal sanction” (i.e., ostracism by peers) would have deterred Sterling’s behavior. Next, specify whether or not the “informal sanctions” would have satisfied anyone who was offended by his comments. Provide a rationale to support your response.
The $2.5 million fine that the NBA imposed on Donald Sterling was a formal sanction for his comments. Considering the fine, elaborate on the primary manner in which this formal sanction carried out the purpose of protecting the players and the league. Justify your response.

Communication Law:Is there precedence for using social media in libel cases?.
libel cases
Prepare a 1,400 to 1,600 word response to the questions that follow this case study:Steve recently joined a church. Church doctrine required that members reveal any personal indiscretions to the leaders of the church. Steve disclosed some of his personal indiscretions to the leaders of the church. After his disclosures, these leaders informed Steve that they intended to tell other members of the church about his indiscretions because they thought the church leaders might help him overcome his problems. Steve was dismayed that this personal information might be disclosed. He told the church leaders about his intention to leave the church rather than have his problems disclosed. The church leaders informed him that their next step was to tell the members of the church, his neighbors, and his employer about his problems by using social media, including posting his information on Facebook, Twitter, and the church’s online chatroom. This case study is an example of the balance between First Amendment rights and freedom of religion. Based on this case study, examine Steve’s rights in terms of libel and the invasion of privacy torts by addressing the following issues and questions.
Is there precedence for using social media in libel cases?
Which of the four privacy torts are involved with regard to this case? Is this a case of libel?
Does the expectation of privacy apply to the facts in the case?
Discuss the defenses to the tort of libel and the privacy torts regarding Steve’s lawsuit.
Is there a legal difference in disclosing personal indiscretions to church elders, to members of the church, or to members of the public?

Facing the Challenge of a New Age” by Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King Jr
In one well-developed paragraph, try to summarize Stanton’s ideology (not her entire text). By summarizing her ideology, you’re specifying and connecting together the most important BVEs expressed in her text. Look back at your double-entry notes as your compose your summary. In your double-entry notes you honed in on specific BVEs, so now you just need to pinpoint the most important of these and explain how they connect together. Try to incorporate 3-5 words generated from the in-class exercise into your summary. Be prepared to support your summary of Stanton’s ideology with references to specific passages from Stanton’s text. Again, your double-entry notes should help you with this.
Words:Dignity, Personality, Human Right, Feminism.
There are two parts to this Journal Entry:
1) Read “Facing the Challenge of a New Age” by Martin Luther King Jr. and take 2-3 pages of double-entry notes.
2) Compose a summary of King’s ideology (not his text). Break it down—”unpack it”—as we have been practicing in class. What are the specific principles, beliefs, values, and expectations that King expresses in his text? How do they connect together? What particular issues is King most concerned about? Be as specific as possible.

When reading a long, complicated text, coming to terms with the author’s point of view can be a gradual process. One useful method for beginning this process is double-entry note-taking, which forces one to slow down, read carefully, and think about specifics.
The method is pretty straightforward: fold a page in half or draw a line down the center of it (or replicate this idea digitally). In the left-hand column write down passages from the text that catch your attention or that seem to contain key ideas. If a phrase is short—a sentence or two—write down the entire quote.
If it is longer, write down the first sentence and the last sentence of the passage with an ellipsis (…) connecting the two. Beneath the quote, in parenthesis, write down the page number. Use the right-hand column to respond to the quote with your own thoughts. If the quote seems important, explain why you think it is important and how it connects to the overall text.
If the quote is confusing or difficult to understand, use the right-hand column to grapple with its meaning. If you disagree with the content of the quote, explain why you take issue with it. The right-hand column should be a record of your thoughts as you read. When it comes time to analyze the text later you will find that your task is easier because you will have already begun the process of thinking critically about it and forming ideas in response to it.
For your homework read Thoreau’s “On the Duty of Civil Disobedience.” As you read, practice double-entry note taking in order to begin thinking critically about Thoreau’s ideology. What is Thoreau’s attitude toward the advancement of society? What does Thoreau value and what ideas and assumptions does he challenge? What does Thoreau believe in? Are there areas of agreement between Thoreau’s ideas O’Sullivan’s? Do any of Thoreau’s ideas or attitudes disturb or complicate O’Sullivan’s? And what do you think of Thoreau’s text? What are your first impressions and reactions? These are simply questions to keep in mind as you practice double-entry note taking. Create three full pages of double-entry notes. Your notes may be paper or digital, as long as you can access them during class and print them out to submit as part of your journal. Make sure you give yourself enough time—an hour and a half or more—to complete this assignment.

The Provision of Lethal Military Equipment: French, UK and US Peacekeeping Policies Towards Africa.
The Provision of Lethal Military Equipment
The United States military has been and always will be a dominant force on the battlefield and through many different warzones throughout the years since the founding of our great nation. Though the military is a key instrument of war fighting it also plays a key role in the support of peace and the prevention of conflict for the United States and its allies. Through operations in support of peacekeeping and peace enforcement efforts, the United States military has been a driving force for peace and stability as well as an overwhelming force of martial prowess in many regions of the world. We’ve already proven through our efforts over the years in places like Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe, that through maintaining a strong and vigilant military presence stability and movement towards peace can be accelerated and strived for.
This endeavor of peacekeeping and is key to the four principle interests outlined during President Obama’s National Security Strategy which are listed as, security, prosperity, values, and international order (Stiehm, 2012). The principle of keeping the peace and maintaining economic and military stability throughout the world not only benefits the national interest of the United States but also the global community as a whole. It also serves to support the other principles of the National Security Strategy and strengthen the commitment we’ve made to our allies all around the world and show those whom may be considered to be potential adversaries that we are willing to defend not only ourselves but our allies as well.
A way that the United States military can be used to support peace as well as prevent conflict involves nuclear weapons. Stiehm writes “One goal is nonproliferation. The United States has particularly focused on preventing Iran’s acquisition of such weapons. It has had to make peace with India’s and Pakistan’s programs and to accept the fact that North Korea has a limited arsenal. However, there is a second goal. It involves drastically cutting the number of weapons held by nuclear powers, particularly those in the arsenals of the United States and Russia.” (2012). The act of nonproliferation is important to keep peace throughout the world as well as helps prevent conflict because of the lower amount of weapons spread throughout the world. The deterrence of the United States military having these weapons is also another aspect of supporting peace as well because countries are less likely to go into a conflict with a country that has these powerful weapons. An additional way that the United States military supports peace is through peace operations Stiehm writes that “Peace Operations are one kind of intervention. These include peacekeeping, peacemaking, peace building, and peace enforcement. Classical peacekeeping had three principles: (1) being invited by all parties to a conflict, (2) absolute neutrality, and (3) no use of force except in self-defense.” (2012). These operations are more directly involved in supporting peace throughout the world as well as they can lead directly to preventing conflict if the United States military is there to resolve conflict between two other groups.
The actions are consistent with the strategic goals of the United States military’s strategic goals. According to Stiehm one of the strategic goals is “to deter and defeat aggression. The U.S. nuclear arsenal is to be reduced but maintained, and a ballistic missile defense against limited attacks is to be advanced.” (2012). All of the actions involving nuclear weapons revolve around this strategic goal. An additional goal that Stiehm mentions is to “strengthen international and regional security” (2012) this goal directly goes hand in hand with peacekeeping operations to strengthen regional security. These actions are consistent with the strategic goals of the United States military.
